Im about to put my truck up for sale, and was wondering what they are going for these days. I have a 2004 F150, FX4, 58k miles, ext. cab, step side. Loaded with all the electronic goodies, Black ext. black leather int. (Only put color b/c black seems to sell better.)

Just curious as to what I should set asking price at. Thanks.

Also, fyi, was gonna list it forsale in classifieds, but classifieds wasnt working.

So you know where you stand, go to kbb.com and look up the book value. Rate it "good", not "excellent", and price it somewhere between retail and private party value, be prepared to take private party.

 

Do some homework.

I checked the blue book on my truck. $5,500. WTF. New engine, new trannie, new brakes, lots of electrical goodies and spankin new tires? I don't think so. If I ever put mine up for sale, I'd do at LEAST $8K Maybe $10K by the time she's all "modded" in a few years. (That turbo idea is spinning around in my head)

 

LOL... You're joking, right? A 1998 XL 2wd, no options, and like 160K miles and you still think its worth 8-10K? And electrical goodies... One of my good friends just bought a 2000 F-150 XLT ext cab short bed 4x4 5.4 with 109K for $5800.

 

Man my truck is worth 18,000.

2007 FX4 loaded with every option available. Tow package, power seat, center console, moonroof, power everything...

1.5 years ago it was $36,200...now it's 18,000. Ridiculous. I can't get rid of it if I want to.

 

Yup, keep it till it is nothing but an old rust bucket! Cars & trucks are not sound investments!.................

 

It's gotten this bad.

I bought the truck in my sig 1.5 years ago for $7700 from a dealer. At the time, that price was $200 *under* KBB private party, I think the reason it was so cheap is I bought it in the Chicago area and nobody wanted a relatively stripped truck with a stick shift. Last time I checked the value was last fall and it was still close to 7 grand. Well, I just checked it again, and its dropped like a rock - to $4900 and I doubt I could actually sell it for anything near that. Now, this is probably the most economical F-150 you will find - a V-6 with a stick. I hate to see what has recently happened to the bigger trucks with V8's and loaded with options.

I was toying with the idea of getting rid of it and getting an economy car - because I don't really *need* a truck now. No way am I gonna take this kind of bath on the thing *and* pay an inflated price for an economy car. Not only that, I'd bet the only reason quite a few economy cars are on the market now is there's something wrong with them. For what I'm gonna take in the shorts, I can buy a LOT of gas, and no crackerbox will be as comfortable as this truck to drive. I think I'm gonna drive it till it drops.

Even if I went to a dealer and tried to trade it in, I doubt they would even want it - the used lots around here are full of trucks collecting dust - and good luck finding a small car too.
