Why do the beds on the fleetsides look longer? Is it an illusion, or are they actually longer?

By fleet you mean non-flareside I assume? I think the inside is the same, one has wheel humps so a bit wider in other spots, but I think you're right, maybe a hair longer.

Yes, I usually say something like straight bed or whatever, but I think fleetside is the correct term.

The bed bolts are in the same place so the beds are swappable.
The tailgate has different dimensions and the rear bumper isn't the same.

Pretty sure both trucks are the same length, I'm voting optical illusion.

I ordered mine and the Flareside was a $860 option.
Couldn't get it past my wife as she went down my spec sheet.

Na, not so much anymore is it 97-03, but that was to be expected. Time does that, so specific things might have their own category one day in the 97-03 section. Be sure if you do post that you include year and 2wd/4x4 etc.

That probably worked out really good when we had the majority, now it is kind of pain to fish thru the pages and pages of 04+ stuff trying to find information for the 97-03 trucks.

The 04+ guys don't stay in their little section and seem think the whole board is for them or something. (jk) And flood out the stuff for the older trucks.

I've been here for nine years.
The truth is there were some really smart people here back then.
I petitioned Steve for some search options and he came through for us in a big way.

If you have a 97-03, most likely your query will apply to the earliest posts.
Use Advanced Search

If your 'key word' is common and causing a lot of hits.....
Change 'Find Posts From' to 'Eight Years Ago'
Change 'and newer' to 'and Older'

If the answer isn't there....
Change Find Posts From to Seven Years Ago...(etc...)
Remember 500 hits is the max returned so you may overlap or you may not.

This procedure will chop the 3 million post database into workable pieces and no matter how much the '04 and up members take over, 97-03 will always belong to us and is very accessable.

I wanted the smallest, and most basic F150 4WD available. I looked a while to find a 4WD XL that wasn't a thrashed work truck. I've had it for about 2 years now, and I have no regrets.
