Great news

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,349728,00.html

For years the Bakken formation has been largely considered "unrecoverable". Due to technology advances I know they've finally been able to get some producing wells there (I've been on several of them actually). I didn't realize exactly how much was there though. Great news not only for my home town and the surrounding area, but for the US as well.

Hopefully it will make a difference. I know here the Barnett shale natural gas deposits have made a lot of people money in leases. It is one reason this area is the fastest growing area in the country.

The market responded to the news with a nationwide drop in gas prices of two cents.

Then Bush farted and it went up a nickel.

I hate to say this but sadly enough it's not going to make a difference in gas prices..

You are right, it probably won't. This formation in particular is quite expensive to produce. I think its great news since its more oil in the US and less we have to buy from foreign countries.

The good thing about oil being so high is that a lot of product that was economically unfeasible to extract and produce will now become viable.

It won't go through.
Corporate officers residing in Dubai are restricted from purchasing States.

true, but the same could be said of the Alberta oil sands.

but they are constantly making improvements to bring it up more cost effectively.

Lessons that can be applied to oil shale

Or gas shale. I think they use the same (somewhat new) fracturing technology as here for natural gas extraction to get to the oil up there. There are TONS of wells going up daily down here for the NG.

I suppose...

Good ol' Tom RIdge (remember him?) went to work for Albania, so nothing's out of the realm of possibility.
