About five years ago my wife had a dealer plate in her demo car and it was stolen over nite. On dealer plates the last couple of numbers is part of the dealer number..So about 3 months later my wife comes in and said the stolen plate was on a car two houses down.. we called the cops It was some punk who didnt "have the money to regester or insure his car" so he stole the plate ...

Hear about it all the time down here in Delaware. This state has it set up where you can pay extra to get a lower number series. And you can even pay more for a smaller all black plate. They are on ebay all the time too. Saw a black tag on a BMW that was simply a 2. Estimated worth of over 50k dollars. I wouldn't even leave the car outside anywhere with that on there.

Just make sure you report it as soon as possible so that it can get into the system as a stolen plate. Many agencies are now using License Plate readers that read and record all plates that are seen by the camera. It it's reported stolen, it will be flagged by the system and alert the Officer.

It's amazing how many plates that LPR can read in an hour. You might get lucky and get the plate back.
