Thoughts on Crown Vic?

I've always been a fan of the Ford Crown Victoria, especially the Police Interceptor edition. The new ones are sexy as hell with LED's all around. The FHP just upgraded its fleet and I love them (although I'd hate to see one in my rear-view) Good thing about that tho is that I can tell a cop 4 miles away at night because of the shape of the headlights. Does anyone else have this technique? No one I kno can tell a car based on the shape of the headlights. Our local police dept got a bunch of Dodge Chargers (V6 models, haha) and some Magnums (K9 units I guess?) but I still love the good old Crown Vic. Just yesterday I was at a red light and I heard a siren off in the distance and when the light turned green I stayed there and saw a brand new FPS doing like 70 in our dual-laned 45 mph road. He slowed down through the red light, and when he was through he STOMPED on that gas and that thing took off with all 8 cylinders singing! Music to my ears! Hell, I think I'll go blow past one doing 90 just to get a ride in one! I've always wanted to ride shotgun with the FHP just for a day to see what its like being a cop.

Just wanted to put that out there. Thanks Ford for keeping our country safe

Mechanics Agree

Most of the mechanics I know agree that the crown vic has been a great platform. The combination of the long wheelbase, rwd, modular engine set up may have been a cash cow for Ford. I thought the Marauder was pretty sweet when it took the streets, and just because there are so few on the road I wouldn't mind having one. Does the new crown vic still run a 4spd auto? I think a 6spd would make these haul *****. Is there going to be a new crown vic?

I've always thought the Vic was intimidating. The Marauder was on my shopping list for a while. They are both incredibly reliable, solid vehicles..the only thing that kept me from getting one was the dated interior.

I don't think Ford has plans (in the immediate future) for changes, but I sure hope they do something.

Interceptor concept anyone?

I considered doing an LX version of the Crown Victoria (the sporty one with the console shifter and leather buckets) until I sat down in one and saw that horrendous digital speedometer! That car would be sooooo much cooler if it came with a nice dashboard and an attractive analog gauge package......

Nothing screams out "the 80's were lame" as loudly as a digital speedometer......

There have been some rumors that the Crown Vic was going bye bye in 2010. Obviously, Ford will re-think that or come up with a similar replacement. They can't afford to give all that money to Dodge.

Now, as a CVPI driver 8 hours a day, I can say it is a pretty solid vehicle. They are still 4speed autos, but they do have some get up and go and are quite stable at 120-130 miles per hour. They also hold up very well in crashes. I have seen some pretty gnarly patrol vehicle crashes where the driver came out with just minor injuries.

And, for those of you who think the Police Interceptor package adds gobs of power some way, you are wrong. The differences are: Larger alternator, different gear ratio, higher top speed, and slightly modified exhaust. There is more information on the differences at wikipedia.com

CVPIs last forever.... I like RWD, long wheel base, and ultra heavy lead sleds.

I would love to get one just so people wouldn't speed around me.

Being a big car it would have room for my long legs too, and for their size they get fairly decent milage as well.

I use to use the same technique. Or if you are speeding and the cars ahead of you going over a hill or around a curve hit their brakes, you can almost bet there is a cop up ahead.

I like Big Vicky too...

Had the stealership not tried to screw me on my trade, I'd have a black 2005 Crown Victoria LX Sport in the driveway right now.

I too was interested in the Marauder. The wife didn't see what I saw in it- but, she didn't see what I saw in the 1994 - 1996 Impala SS either.

Those cars have a lot of potential in the looks, and under the hood department- with the right owner. With the right aftermarket accessories, it can look hot. Put too much on it, and it can go from mean to ghetto in 0.5 seconds.

Aweome cars, one of my first was an 85 Grand Marquis. Total grocery getter at first but with a 351 and 4bbl that thing was mean. Lit the tires up by just mashing the gas and once rolling it took off like a rocket. Ive driven the newer ones and had the chance to hop in a Marauder Dont think you can go wrong with one

The Crown Vic is already done for civvie sales. It's still available to law enforcement and fleet/rental companies, but it was discontinued to the public for the '08 model year.

It's too bad, Ford spent a lot of money in 2003 making the full frame cars drive and steer better than they ever did. They were the best cars going for Ford, IMO. Town Cars and Grand Marquis are still available though.
