What?!?! The Crown Vic is no longer being publically sold? Aww.... I'm really intested in them and maybe one day I'll own one. I see all these people where I live w/ ex-Police Interceptor packages and maybe I'll find a cheap one and bring it back to Interceptor status with undercover LED's all around and get it painted Midnight Black

Question for the cops here: Why do the sold PI's still have the spotlights in them but everything else removed? I can tell a ex-PI cause they always have little rubber grommets in the roof where the lightbar was and screw holes in the dash along with the missing "Police Interceptor" baging.

Yeah... the CV was a fav for me... it'd be a car I wanted to own just as a dependable daily driver. Not only that, but the RWD, V8, excellent ride, full frame, heavy duty, solid rear axle, long wheel base... you can't beat that.

I wish there were more RWD v8 cars around more... especially like the Taurus should be RWD with a v8 along with a RWD Fusion...

I know, I know, I know... sheesh... what is it with me and RWD? I dunno, I prefer it. It's just like stick shifts...

Question: Whats the difference between the Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, and Marauder (other than the manufacturer?)

Also, is the CVPI's 4.6L SOHC V8 the same engine in the 05+ Mustang? It says the CVPI has 250 hp, while the Mustangs' 4.6L has stock 300. I wonder how a chipped Mustang engine in a CV would do for accel and speed

i had a 94 grand marquis 4.6L it wasnt fast at all.....0-60 cough 17 seconds... but it was the best riding car id ever been in!! it was so smooth i just loved the ride of the boat! that car was so nice...

The differnce is...Crown vic Ford full size car a lil faster than the Marquis
Grand marquis Mercury car built for ride and smoothness
Mercury marauder built for...well speed
*im sure someone who knows more off the diff. will tell you *

I miss my grand marquis...well kinda it burned about a QT of oil ever 1,000 miles *bad valve guides on those years* But the ride on that car was almost worth it. I would deff drive another one.

I'm pretty sure the Crown Vics have the 2 valve 4.6

where the Mustang has the 3 valve 4.6 so they're different engines.

Later Mark.

I wish we'd have gotten a crown vic instead of the impala we got back in 2002. I may have to pick up a used one for my wife some day.

My parents Crown Vic always smells like mold inside. Numerous trips to the dealer and various shops and no one has been able to track down how the water is getting in.

Cable drives for the power windows have had many problems.

The intake manifold is plastic and keep cracking.

It was my impression that the vics were all considered to be the dogs of police interceptors. Sure they are reliable and take a beating, but flat out speed was lack-luster, especially when weighed down with the gear you guys carry around everywhere. Most of the new departments around here in San Diego have been scooping up the new chargers. The CHP has been driving camaros for years on the highway. Atleast it's all still american though...

The Police Package Crown Vic Interceptor now come from the factory with the spotlights in their Stock Form. They are no longer added on when the rest of the car is outfitted with nessesary Police Equipment. The spotlights are even warranteed by Ford from the factory...........

I love the Crown Vic's, always have. Super reliable (except for water pumps on any of our mid-80's) and extremely great ride. I myself like the cop versions. We just got rid (had a hellova time finding buyers willing to pay anything for it) a 99 Merc, ran great, still had cold a/c. For it's 215? hp, it went pretty good, and mileage was way better than expected. This is a car that needs to be revamped and not thrown away. This is a car which has been around for what almost 50 years to when it was the Galaxie?

I love all the trunk space in those cars!!!! i threw like 5 of my friends back there and they said it was pretty comfy because it was so friggn big!

The Crown Vic and Grand Marquis for all intents and purposes are the same car. The grill and tail lights are a little different, and the instrument cluster/interior trim bits are different, but they're the same ride otherwise.

The Marauder had air suspension standard (it's optional on Vics and Grand Marquis), 18" wheels with BFG tires, a 3.55 rear axle gear, a floor shifter, a tachometer and Autometer gauges, and a 302 hp 4.6L DOHC engine. The Marauder was only available in '03 and '04, and initially you could have it in any color you wanted, as long as it was black. Silver came along in late '03, and burgundy in 2004.

'05+ Mustang GTs have 3V versions of the 4.6, the Crown Vic only has a 2V 4.6. As far as how it'd run with a worked over 4.6, probably around the same as a Marauder, mid-high 14s or so in a 1/4 mile. Good enough to be entertaining.

The CVPI is really one tough car! It has a Watts linkage rear suspension not found on the civilian model, the new 4.6 with duals is good for 255HP's! The rear end gearing is just right for get up & go starts! Add in HD alternator,HD cooling system,HD shocks, Etc., it is quite a tough car! Heck as far as I know it is the only Police Car offered with bullet resistant Kevlar door panels as an option for 2008 & a Rear impact Fire supression system!.......I feel mighty safe spending 8-16 hours a day in mine!.........

The shocks and springs are the only difference suspension wise between the civvie models and P71s.

I also heard that there is a stab-protection plate in the newer models. Is the glas bullet proof? My school officer told me so but I think he was yanking my leg.

Edit: My aunt is on her way over to visit us. She comes up from Tampa every year with her '03 Grand Marquis. Last time she was here I didn't have my license but now that I do...
