Been there, done that while training for Navy security. For me it wasn't too bad, but some others reacted, well, differently. The biggest thing to remember is that you can function after being sprayed. It's a shock effect weapon. No damage, but causes you to think there's quite a bit. It's necessary to be sprayed b/c in the field, you are not under controlled conditions, and when/if you use it, you will get a taste. You can function after, but remember to breathe. That's the big one. Good luck, bro, and let us know how it turns out.

Unless of course you're like me... one of the very very few people "immune" to CS. Pissed my DI's off to no end.

I glad you posted this. In college, our house had a lot of things stolen out of it by a couple of guys that I knew. I knew it was them and about a week later, I caught up with one of them at a party. I pulled him outside and told him to leave before there was trouble (I would have beat him senseless but the cops were already investigating the case so I didn't want possibly jeopardize anything with an assult charge against me). When he refused to leave I approached him to forcefully remove him from the party and he Pepper Sprayed me... Got me on the right side of the face from just under my eye by my cheek back to my ear. It looked like pink spraypaint on my face.

There was the 1/2 second initial shock factor because I didn't know what happened, but honestly I lost it and beat this kid to a pulp. Initially, it didn't seem to phase me but I am sure that was because of all the adrenaline (sp)... I had about 30 seconds before I had to run outside with everyone else in the party because you couldn't even open your eyes and everything was burning.

So, I will attest to the fact that Pepper Spray won't instantly immoblize it's victim, but within a short period of time, I was hurting after that...

Do you guys know if they make different degress or levels of potency. Basically, is the stuff that you can get over the counter as potent as the stuff law enforcement or other organizations use? I always wondered this...

Law enforcement grade is much stronger than that available for civilian use. It's illegal in MI for citizens to carry law enforcement grade O/C. The potency is based on the percentage of O/C in the spray.

Thanks Cope. I'm not Iron Man by any means but when I got zapped by that punk, a few days later I kept thinking to myself "there's no way that Pepper Spray is going to immediately deter anyone, what a joke"

I see all these Jail documentaries and COPS shows now when the convicts get blasted in the face and I always hear them scream. I knew they had to use something stronger than what I got sprayed with.

I'm back, and I have to say it was the worst thing I've ever felt, I'd rather get punched in the face then have to go through that again. JK007, you are correct, I takes a couple of seconds to kick in, about 6 seconds. It was the worst, you get snot running down like crazy, eyes slam shut, and a HORRIBLE burning sensation on your face. I would never ever want to go through that again, even some guys there were saying the military gas camber is nothing compared to OC. On a side note, the degrees of strengths very from department to department, ours are only 1,000,000 (SHU) but my personal one in my truck which is Fox Labs O/C has 2,000,000 (SHU) and you can legally buy stronger ones online and other stores, I believe the strongest one you can buy is 2.3mil (SHU), governments agencies can carry 3mil O/C, which I've been told makes you skin peel off like if you had a sunburn.

How long did the effects last? At the peak were you totally incapacitated? if you sprayed someone could they still give you a beat down? These are the questions
we need answered.

I took one shower already and every time I get it wet it feels like I'm being sprayed again, but the burning sensation only last about 10 minutes. At it's peak which starts about 5 seconds after you been hit directly on the face should last for about 40 minutes of, "I can't breath", followed but another 30 minutes, "it's burns" all in all at it's peaks it's going to last for an hour after you've been hit but the effects will be felt the whole day. There is a very low failure rate, but for the most part spraying them and waiting about 10 seconds will usually cause a suspect to give up, sometimes very rear a mentally illed person will no be effected by the O/C spary.

Well, when we were instructed to break the seal and verbalize our personal data, I was the 5th inline before I could leave the zone. When I hit the door, a DS was on the other side blocking it. So I hit it again, but this time much harder. It caught him on the chin, lips, and nose with the door. Split him right open. That pissed off my DS. Needless to say, I was put on every crap duty for the next 2 weeks. What makes it worse, is that the DS who received the injury was the only cool one of the bunch, always looking out for us and standing up for us. I felt really bad.
