I wonder how they came to $40,000 for that car tho... i woulda expected low 30s..
Compared to the compitition (Mustang, Camaro) the original was massive, and was far from a featherweight either. I would take it, mind you the one they are coming out with first should be compared to the GT-500, not the GT. I have heard 5.7 and V-6 models will come out later that will be cheaper. $40k is still less than half price of a restored original Hemi Challenger, although I do like the looks of original better. I agree, the interior is BORING, but the instruments are neat, I will give them credit for that.

Also note that this heavy car with 425 hp that does zero to 60 in about 5 clicks also has 3.06 rear axle gearing (for 2008). I wonder how a simple regear would wake it it up... and why they bothered with 3.06's from the factory.

Do we know what the transmission gear ratio is? ... maybe that's the rear gear is only 3.06.

But if we're comparing it to the GT500, the GT500 blows it out of the water.

According the the Allpar link provided earlier only the V-8 5 speed auto cars have the obsenely high gearing, the six speed manuals come with lower gears.

The Challenger #'s from earlier in this thread:
0-60 in 4.9 seconds
Zero to 100 mph and back in under 17 seconds
Quarter-mile times 13.3 seconds
60-0 braking of 110 feet

For the GT-500 I find the following #'s
Horsepower: 500 bhp (373 kW) (SAE-certified)
Torque: 480 ft·lbf (650 N·m) (SAE-certified)
0-60 mph: 4.3 s[citation needed]
Quarter-mile: 12.9 s with top speed 112 mph

Looks like it is close enough for it to come down to the driver to me.

The GT500 does 0-60 a half second faster than the Challenger. Not a drivers race.

I will choose a GT500 over the challenger anyday, especially when it comes to mods.

The interior is horrible. but has dodge ever made an attractive interior in any vehicle?

The outside looks sleek, i like it. Just PLEASE, someone buy an orange one and make a modern version of the General Lee. And yes, it MUST have dixie horns.

I would say it's very much a drivers race. Unless you can guarantee that the Shelby is going to "hook and book" better than the Challenger.

so you can expect a 5.7L R/T to start at 30k at least......the Mustang GT will own it, remember the GT is getting revamped next year and will be even faster and probably won't gain weight, the only thing the Challenger has over the Mustang is an IRS but i don't know how much of an edge it has with it weighing so much

i do like the looks of the Challenger more than the new Camaro(talk about horrible interior) and would like to test drive the manual version
