It really is fun, and is not as difficult as it seems. If you really want to go for it, you have lots of help here. I'd certainly be happy to give you tech support. The largest amount of time goes into choosing the right components at a price you can afford. Once all the parts show up, it's all downhill from there.

I actually did some laptops a couple of years ago, but it wasn't cost effective. Parts cost too much.

I'm not dumb when it comes to computers, I know a little of this and that. I can find my way around the inside of a computer case. But, I've never installed ALL of the pieces and it's psyching me out. I'm guessing I could build a pretty nice computer for $1,000 right? I don't game.

my computer was about 1500 and it scores higher than 97% of all other computers in 3dmark06. you get what you pay for, its just knowing what to buy, what to stay away from, and getting the most bang for your buck

The case is very sweet. And my specs weren't lacking three years ago when I built it. It'll hold me over for another 6-12 months and then I'll build a new one from the ground up. No money for that right now with my upcoming cross country move.

There are apple virii out there. I believe one was called Macarena, and targeted OS X. The fact of the matter is Apple retains less of the overall computer market, making it a much smaller target for hackers than Microsoft's Windows.

My wife would love to argue the point, she's pro-Microsoft. My only point in bringing this up is don't rest on your laurels.

No Virus's or Ad-ware on my PC in quite some time. Surf intelligently, wear protection, and you'll be ok.
