To get a gun or not?
Get a gun you will want to shoot. whether its a .22 pistol or a .22 rifle it will be fun and get you into shooting. After you shoot enough you will get the bug and will be buying more weapons of all different kinds. .22's are fun and cheap.

Tell your aunt to buy you some numb-chucks.
Practice with them every day.
It will take you about five years to become proficient with them.
Then, when you're older you can walk into a 7-Eleven, whip the numb-chucks around like a pro and say,
"Open the register, gimme the cash and no one gets hurt!"

I'll probably go shooting with my old boss, who has more guns than I can count, and see what I like best. He's got enough stuff to start a small war.

I know you are kidding, but it's just as illegal to do what you suggest. Using a gun or "numb-chucks" during a crime is still a felony.

Here there is no age restriction for the purchase of the Numb or the Chuck.

However, you have to to 16 and show a photo ID to buy the chain.

I am fairly certain that one must be 21 to purchase a handgun through a licensed dealer, but there is no age restriction on owning a handgun.
NRA-ILA Federal Gun Laws
Charlie, this is from the link in your post...
"The following classes of people are ineligible to possess, receive, ship, or transport firearms or ammunition:
...
Persons less than 18 years of age for the purchase of a shotgun or rifle.
Persons less than 21 years of age for the purchase of a firearm that is other than a shotgun or rifle.

I think the "purchase" part of that entry was meant to identify that specific instance.
You may be correct, but, read that verbatim inthat context, and there are a lot of young persons carrying a rifle around inthe deer woods illegally.
Remember, you only have to be 15 years of age to hunt unsupervised

I know young people hunt.
In a legal sense is the gun really their's or is the adult who purchased it ultimately responsible.
We have laws on the books about the purchase of alcohol.
In cases of underage use, either the seller broke the law or the purchaser was not in keeping with the spirit of the law which would lead to culpability in a legal sense.

Doesn't matter who the rifle belongs to, they still possess it
Firearm ownership age, as well as alcohol consumption age, both have somewhat vague laws that can be argued either way.
I suppose it wouldn't be prudent to argue about either here and jack this thread to pieces however.
