wireless internet problem again.

Granted you have provided him the WEP key etc?
Two things. I would call Linksys tech support, if that doesn't solve it....
Get a new one.
They do go bad. I've had 3 in the past 5 years. It happens.

I suspect your WEP is jacked up. Go into your settings and change the wifi encryption to off (wide open)on your router and see if it sees your router from the laptop, set it to broadcast your SSID to something like F150.
If that works, then change the WEP to to something you know, then right down the octets and you should be good to go from there.
Tell me if you follow what I just told you....
Have you logged into the router and made any changes? If yes what changes were made? SSID, encryption Filterig MAC address', etc? Next question, if you never made changes and your router was wide open someone might have made changes for you without knowing. That is why there is encryption. Try doing a hard reset to the router. Press the reset button the back of the router and hold it till it resets. I think that is right for a hard reset. If not check the manual.
This is a very weird issue. I don't think it is a WEP problem because in the original post you mentioned that you could access the Internet via wireless when the desktop computer is turned off....correct?
I would definitely suggest resetting the Linksys to it's default configuration, then login to the Linksys, setup an SSID, enable broadcast and disable wireless security to eliminate that as a problem. If you still are unable to connect to the Internet with both computers turned on then I would look to see that you don't have Internet Connection Sharing enabled on the desktop computer.
That is about all I can come up with at the moment.

defiantly be easier if you had at least one more computer.
If you could get any 2 online at the same time, then that would point to the one that wouldn't let any of them.

yawn.......
Did the OP call Linksys yet as I suggested? Burned a few cycles on this already.
4 Predictions:
1. router has lost the wifi board, thus needs to be replaced.
2. WEP password paraphrase was lost thus cannot see the non broadcast SSID thus cannot see it nor connect to it.(auto connect mode)
3. received security update from MS that removed previous connections and now have to set up wifi connnection via control panel.
4. Antivirus app not allowing past firewall connection, per #3 firewall setting configed to default. (on-recommended) Well not really....

Please give us a link to your previous thread - I think it may be an issue with the way the modem and router are configured. I seem to remember something about that and I also recall that there were questions that were not answered to my satisfaction.
DSL or cable........modem model and mode of operation.........router mode of operation.......

I agree, if memory serves me it started working and he left it at that, expecting it to continue to work against the warnings that it wasn't finished being set up or properly set up and that there would be problems later.

You think it might be the router itself, not the aforementioned stuff?
