Quads...

Well, I know many of you out here have them. I am looking at getting one next year possibly. I have never owned one, but have been riding them since I was a kid. I'm not 100% sure what to go with. I'm not really wanting a trail quad. I'm looking more along the lines of a sport quad. I was thinking about getting a Raptor 660. Do any of you out there have one of these, or know someone who does? If so give me some info please.

Also, if you guys could, give me some ideas for other quads that you guys know about. For some reason, im partial to Yamaha, but I am open to other things you guys suggest. Since I want to buy used, I guess I need to know what these are worth. Is there an easy way to find that out? I wanted something around the 04-06 range maybe? I'm still in the first stages of this, so that time line could change. Thanks, for any help you can give me!

If your going with a sport quad...........which i deffinately would

Go with the YFZ450 over the Raptor, Its way quicker, lower to the ground so its more stable and you dont get that tipping feeling. And the 450 even though its a smaller motor is actually faster, unless your going for top speed. The 450 will beat the Raptor in most drags. I have a 450 and my Roomate had the Raptor 700 and i beat him everytime, untill we got to fifth gear he would slowly pull away

Also if you plan on doing any type of jumping the Raptor sucks stock, its way to soft and your skid plate will be introducing itself to the ground A LOT. The 450 has stiffer suspension so it is better in that department

The best way to find how much they are going for would prolly be Ebay or something, that way you can see exactly what people are selling them for.

Let me know what you find out, cause im looking to possibly sell my 05, I just dont ride it enough.....**** its been sitting for over a year now

Since you mentioned a sport quad for trail riding, the Raptor is a great choice. The new 700 Raptor is an all around better quad than the 660. The first year 660 Raptor had some transmission issues. Another good choice is the Honda 400ex, which I have. It is basically bulletproof and you can find them pretty inexpensive. The newer ones have a reverse gear, which is handy on trails, and updated styling. The top of the line race quads, like the YZF, 450r and Quadracer are also great trailquads, but will be more expensive. The biggest downfall to the race quads in the woods is the lack of a reverse gear/

For strictly trail riding the Raptor may be ok, but why do you need that much motor for Trail riding. And i just dont like the feeling that im so high up in the air, i always feel like im going to tip over.

Reverse.............Reverse is for little girls..........haha, no but seriously ive never really NEEDED reverse, but i guess it would of come in handy a couple times

The Honda 450r is another badass machine, I would get either that or the YFZ 450.............But thats me. I would prolly be arguing for something different but the 450 was my first Quad so thats whats normal for me. Everything else doesnt compare and i dont feel comfortable or safe on my buddys machines

YFZ 450, Raptor 700, Honda 400ex, LTZ 450 (Raced all of them)............. None of them have anything on the Banshee Twin 350, you'll take em all off the line and just smoke em with that sixth gear. You can find them pretty cheap

That is true a Banshee will beat most anything, but only in a straight line, thats about all they are good for

And if you get a Banshee be ready for some wrench time cause they require constant maintanence

FALSE, I haven't touched mine for over three years, and trust me it's gone through it's fair share of chit.

But remember track riding has a lot to do with rider experience.

Yeah i got nothing against the Banshee, They are actually pretty badass, pretty much like riding a chainsaw on steroids

My buddy had one and i loved the smell of the exhaust, but the sound got fairly annoying, especially when he was ahead of me

Yeah thats what i was trying to say about the maintenance issue

Really though to be fair, any used quad will have been abused, these arent trucks, people are beating the crap out of them, but thats what there made for right?

For trail riding I'd definitely get a 450 over a raptor, unless they completely changed the handling of the new raptor.
