Its a little steep but it really isn't outrageous.
I dont mind going out of state. If you dont mind can you find out from your local dealer how much OTD they would charge for a regular grey and red 2008 Raptor 700.
I have a 99 300EX and 99 400EX. They are very different front each other with the 400 more twitchy for oversteer/understeer) and ther 300 smoothly sliding around. In 20-40mph trials, the 300 is just as quick due to short wheelbase. I ride only on trails, Michigan DNR designated one. Rarely are you able to hit top speed, often just using 2-3rd gears and 4-5 on some shared snowmobile trails when the 400's extra power and gearing allows more speed. But they both take the turns about the same speeds. I call the 300EX the Caddilac ride because it is so soft, way too soft for 270# riders. it's easier on the body for 8-10 hours of hard riding for the lighter people (180-200 pounds) and every bit as fun. I tend to cover about 125 trail miles, plus whatever the GPS loses in the trees in a single day.
I bought both because I only get to ride 2-4 times per year, but when I do, they are abused. I only have to change the oil once per year and they start up without issuer. I'm sure you can find a stock 400EX for $2k, ride it for 2 years, then sell it for $2k. I wouldn't worry about abusing a new quad, though. That is what the machines are designe to do. If you don't trust a certain brand/model to handle the abuse, shop elsewhere. Both my quds see more redline shifts than not when they are ridden. Anything you buy used you should assume are ridden the same way.

IMHO I would go with the YFZ over the Raptor.. I own 2 YFZ's and I've rode both the 600 Raptor and the 700 Raptor, and the YFZ has alot quicker throttle response.. Don't get me wrong, you can make a Raptor fly, you can a YFZ too.. but stock to stock the YFZ will out do a Raptor in alot of things.. The only bad thing about the YFZ is no reverse, but it's not a big deal once you get use to it..
I didn't read but 1 page, how many of you race on here?? I've been racing XC for 4 years now and this my 1st year in the Pro Class..
My username (ATVCCS) is the series I race in, and 450 is my race number I had the 1st year I was racing.. Pretty cool to see people on here who also ride

You are going to find a million different opinions on what quad you should buy.
Personally, if you want a sport quad thats good for trail riding, Id go with a Polaris Outlaw.
They have much more ground clerance than any other sport quad and if you go with the 525 there is no other stock quad that will be able to keep up with you.
My family has owned Polaris quads since '94 and we have never have a moment of trouble with any of them. Its been my experience that a Polaris will outwork, outhaul, outtow, outplow, outlast and outrun anything else on the market.

The only cool thing about the predator is the low end torque...........and i dont even know if thats cool or not......**** its hard to keep the front end on the ground.
And IMO they look a little outdated, kinda boxy and stuff......dont get me wrong they are decent but nothing compared to the Yamahas
GO Yamaha whatever you do, 450 or Raptor, but just go Yamaha and you will not be dissapointed
