my dog has seizures...
I Have a jack Russel terrier, and he is 1 year 3 months old, at about 6 months old, he had a seizure, lasts about 30 seconds, his whole body tenses up and his eyes roll back in his head. He had a couple more within 2 months of the first time. He hasn't had another since then until yesterday. It lasted about a minute, and he started out by lifting his left paw over his head then he fell over and had his seizure. He seems really tired after it, but today he is as wild and happy as ever. Has anyone heard of this? I'm going to call the vet Monday and see if there are any tests that can be done to see why he is having these...
I have no idea what might be the problem, but why don't you see if there is a JRT forum. I have a Rat Terrier(cousin to the JRT) and there is an RT forum where you can get lots of answers. I have learned a lot just from reading questions and answers. If you haven't, you might do a search and see if anyone in a JRT forum can advise you. Good luck, I know that would be driving me nuts.

We had a dog that had seizures. Our vet put him on medication for epilepsy which controlled them. It's basically the same medication they give humans for epilepsy. I'm not saying that's what's wrong with your dog but it's a possibility. Good luck with him.
We have a dog has seizures now. Same symptons before seizure. He walks like he drunk, stumbling, walking into walls. When he had seizures we let him go because he might bite us and not know it. He hasn't bite anyone yet. Hes on seizure medicine called Phenobarital 30 mg and give to him twice a day. We just open his mouth and drop it in, then we give him treat. Hes part yorkie and dashhound. Hes hasn't had no seizures for months now, that we know of.
I've had 2 dogs that had seizures, A Bluetick/Walker hound who was epeliptic (so his name was Epi
) and later learned they he may have been diabetic too. He'd have siezures when he got excited but if you gave him a hearshy bar before hunting, then he was less likely to have one on the hunt.
Our last dog was a Pommeranian and he was diabetic, he'd have diabetic seizures. When we took him to the vet and they tested thats what they found so we had to give him hemogloben (sp?) shot every morning, samething that they give humans for diabetes. Vet wrote a subscription and the local pharmacy filled it, I didnt know vets could write subscriptions like that.

My 8 year old Pug has been having seizures for over a year now... Vets can't figure out what is wrong with her. Done many blood tests and such. She's been put on some medication, it's actually a sedative. She was woozy for the first few days, but was back to normal in no time. She still has the occasional seizure, but they are far less common, maybe once a week if that now. I'm not too sure cause I'm never home anymore...

Get it to a vet RIGHT AWAY. I had a wonderful dog that never had a seizure (at least that we saw), until one day he had several while we were out to dinner (one family at home witnessed it). By the time we returned he had suffered so much brain damage I had to have him put down that night.
Not cool. Get it checked now before it is too late. (Mine had epilepsy)
