my bad..im an a-whole and i know it. But, explain to me why its ok to shoot a horse that shatters its leg, or a raccoon that eats out of your trash can but not a dog or cat? i understand the family attachments but if nothing can be done let it go.
It use to be common practice to shoot a horse (or dog or anything else short of kids) when it could no longer be used and could not be sold, so there for it was just a drain on your wallet. Now that horses are not common farm equipment, investments, they are now leisure items, they likely wont get shot. They wil be used to let kids ride.
I have no problem shooting a dog chasing cattle, threatening to attack someone at thier house or in thier own yard, (not the dogs yard the someonelses own yard, unless it's attacking it's owner in it's own yard) destroying property or other wise causing a problem.
IF... the poster had asked should I put the dog down, then it would be prudent to suggest yes.
Since the poster came with a concern for a solution.... then shooting it, is not a viable option. You just suggested he kill one of his kids that has a minor problem.

uh ok, shoot one of your family members that has a problem. My dog isng dieing, its not in pain, it just has a problem that can be taken care of. I dont see you doing much good around here.
Built, I can't offer much advice as I do not know much about that breed but my Italian Greyhounds have infrequent siezures and it is notorious in their breed. I hope this is an isolated and passing thing.....good luck man. Hope you have a vet you trust.
We have a 12 yr old Keeshond with siezures. Pretty much just what you described. The actual siezure can last about 30 seconds, but he can be "groggy" & stiff for 10 minutes before/afterwards sometimes.
These started when he was about 2 - 3 yrs old & happen once every few months on average that we know of. Or vet is pretty conservative. When it first happened, the vet said he could prescribe meds, but wanted to wait and see how bad things were. Since then, he has them occasionally and seems completely normal before / after so we never have put him on meds.
I would take it seriously and see your vet, but from what I gather, it's not all that uncommon. Like any medical condition though, one vet may want meds right now, another may consider it normal and only do meds if they become more frequent.

It lasted about a minute, and he started out by lifting his left paw over his head then he fell over and had his seizure. He seems really tired after it, but today he is as wild and happy as ever. Has anyone heard of this? I'm going to call the vet Monday and see if there are any tests that can be done to see why he is having these...
Jacks are known for seizures. My sis had one and he got put on medicine to help with the seizures. It didn't help him and she ended up having him put down. It about killed her inside to do that, but she figured it was best for the dog. I don't think I would have taken that route. Unless his health declines that he is in pain or something. Good luck man, maybe the medicine will work for your pup.
