Am I alone?

Just curious if anyone feels like me? I personally do not watch the news on any of the mainstream channels. The closest i get to NEWS is watching CURRENT-tv on cable. Theirs always the worst things in the world on, and with all of the drama of having 2 popular boys in grade school, that's enough. The guys that I work with are always talking about these terrible things that they saw on the evening news. How about they start a show called GOOD news, with nothing negative, ever.
My co-workers think i'm nuts, so I thought that I would confirm their suspicions.

I agree!

I quit watching, reading, listening to the news about 4 years ago and my day to day quality of life, attitude, etc, all improved substantually almost instantly. It literally changed my life around and am much happier and more content now.

Whenever anyone starts talking about the "news" they seen, heard, read, or found.... 99% of the time, especialy when it's something like the nappy headed guys incident or other non detremental drama, I can only think and often respond...
This affects me how? Even if I was so inclined t odo soemthing,... I can affect this how? Is it worth my time thinking about it much less talking about? NOPE, it's definatly a waste of time, thank you for wasting my time with ignorant non relative conversation. BTW, did you hear that there is a war going on and men and our women are dying?????

I watch the local news from time to time, but that's about it.

I keep up with local news and read Fark for the lighter side. If anything else is important I usually find out about it here.

I came to the conclusion long ago that the world is crap and is going to hell in a handbasket. However, I just celebrated 11 yrs of marriage tonight, I got a 5 yr old son that I love dearly, and a truck I love to have fun in. I got a nice house, a loving dog and two precious cats. Point is, for all the crap that this world has to offer, if you can find a way to shut it out for a while, you can at least enjoy life a bit. I watch local news, mostly for any bad weather, and if schools are closing. Thank goodness college football is back, time to live again and Roll Tide!! Even though I live in Fightin' Irish land

Knowing the news is important...BUT the major channels all have the most negative and spectacular spin on any event. I watch the local news and also read the local newspaper daily (Phila Inquirer). I also peruse Internet news sources, but treat them with a grain of salt...the Internet sources always want to be the first to break events, but in the heat of the moment, may not have their facts right (takes time to verify). CNN Headline news is also good for making much ado about nothing...a car chase, an airplane landing with its nose gear up...that's not news in my book.

What's important to me is a recap of events and the possible repercussions; anything to do with Putin and Russia, Middle East things, our 'friends' in europe, China's steps to global dominance...that's what I want to know about. I try to get info from various sources, including the weekly mags, like Newsweek.

But overall, the world's going to Hell in a handbasket, and the good ol' USA better get its act together and be a world leader...or else we end up like France, Britain, or Germany...a has-been. We're way better than that!

Good news doesn't get market share. Period. No market share means low rates for ad spots. That means less revenue, cost cutting to stay afloat, even crappier programing, and a downward spiral for any news station. Death murder and general mayhem get viewers. more viewers means more expensive time slots, revenue, etc...

Its that simple. The general population rules. And the people want mayhem.

Go read a book, instead.

BTW... if y'all haven't already done so - State of Fear ( Michael Crichton) - mandatory reading

I stay far away from politics. Sucks for me now because I am taking an American history class... I could care less about politics. I'd rather use the storage in my brain for way more useful stuff.

I hate watching the news, all they report is bad news and stuff that isn't news...aka...Paris, Lindsey...etc...

I watch the local news long enough to get the weather report and then turn it off. My husband, on the other hand, watches Fox News about 3-4 hours out of the day, drives me batty!!

Death, blood, pain, lose, chaos, destruction. They all make for excellent news. Who wants to read that a panda bear gave birth today? If the president gets shot, thats front page news every time.
