What do you think of Tattoos??

Ok so I thought I would bring this question to everyone since my wife and I can't seem to agree. I am thinking about finishing off my left arm and having a full sleeve, which is having my entire arm covered from top to bottom in tattoo. I currently have a half sleeve. It is Japanese themed. I have a Koi with waves, rocks and cherry blossoms. On the underside of my arm I have a plans to start a Hanya, which is a Japanese Demon. With a shirt on you can just barely see the bottom of my tattoo. I want to get a Japanese dragon that covers my entire forearm and completes my sleeve. My wife thinks that I will look bad. So here is my question. Do you have to be a certian type of person to have a full sleeve?? I am a 26 y/o father of a 2 year old and have two step sons. I am married and a career fire fighter. I am a pretty normal dresser too I guess, would say "preppy" if I had to give it a style. Work doesn't mind if I have it either. I really want it and don't think my wife will be pissed or anything. I am just curious what people think. Is it tacky?? Does it look bad?? Or do you support it?? Let me know your opinions.

I'll probably be in the minority here, but I think tats look cool on people under 35, and ridiculous on people over 60.

I know of a few people that have loads of tats, and now after having had them for so many years, wish they could go back in time and never get a single one.

I don't know exactly what it is, but the thinner lines on well done tats seem to "bleed" as people get older. They start looking smeared and loose.

If you already have some, your stuck anyway. I'd ask your wife, because she is the one that has to look at you if your tats eventually deteriorate to freak show status.

To each thier own, although tats have been more common in recent years, and found in every walk of life of every class. There is sitll a certain bias that goes with say a full sleeve. You can't completely cover it even with long sleeves and may take credability from you later. Maybe sometime when you really need the credibility too. Say you have been accused of a murder, or worse child abuse, or even worse child molesting..... Especially with step children... Would you really want to be presenting yourself as prim and proper to a jury of your peers with ink peaking out from your cuff sleeve?

I'm not saying Tats are to a certain class, or imply inteligance or lack of, I am getting one some day, but you can get carried away and become tacky pretty fast and very easily.

My 18 year-old son wanted a tattoo of our family crest for a Christmas present---he got it on his right arm, and it looks cool. My wife also has a small one on her ankle with my name in it. My opinion on them has changed a great deal.

I've heard they are adictive, and- once you get one, that's pretty much it- you're gonna get more.

That said, I think they look good on some people. I don't mind a sexy one over the crack of a girl's butt- or barbwire around someone's arm.

Anything else, to me, is going too far.

Self expression, I like very small ones in the right places not the typical honkey with a barb wire- not very original! I will give people credit, it is fabulous art, just prefer mine in picture or paper form

To me, tatoos are trashy. Can't help it, just yhe way I was brought up many years ago. I know times have changed, but to me, it's a form of self mutilation. Just no need for it.

Agreed. If you want to be taken seriously, don't get a full sleeve.

I like certain tats in certain places, but for the most part I'm not a fan of them.
