A gun is for one thing, and one thing only, when it comes to self defense. To stop an immediate threat of death or serious bodily injury to one's self or other innocents.

In other news, I'm now sober and able to think more clearly. I really think that if they were going to do anything, they probably would have done it last night. Now I'm just worried that if they don't know it was me, they'll take it out on one of my friends.. I guess I'll just stay away from the bonfires for a while and in my guess it will all blow over in a couple weeks.

A bunch of kids and alcohol do not mix well together. EVeryone there made the mistake of not pulling this kid off of the fire immediately, whether he started this situation or not.

You never drank underage?

Alcohols not for everyone...
Anyways, i believe this is another case of, the too personal for an internet forum post but thinks a bunch of truck drivers will make his decisions when really half of them will tear apart what he says and ridicule him for things instead of doing the thinking which is really his job not ours thread.

Whoa, wait just a minute....
You would never throw someone on a bonfire on purpose, you regret doing that, yet you were/are planing on shooting them?
Dude throwing someone on a bonfire is like shaking thier hand compared shooting someone.
At this point, since you posted it then if you have to shoot them it would be called premediated murder. Not self defense. Your going in with intentions to shoot them and not taking every route to avoid it.
Put the guns away, take it out of your truck, lock it safely away.
I carry too, I hope to god I never have to use it. Not becasue I'm worried about using it. Because if I do, that means I feel I am going to die anyway and I hope my life is never in that danger. If it is I will take them with me or if I'm lucky just send them to the other side. They will never see it, if anyone happens to see my gun in my hand, that means they are dead before they have to time to react. Ideally try to keep it hid, they won't even see it.
Rules to stay alive
1. Never pull a weapon that you dont want used on yourself. this includes Bats, pipes, sand hose, pool ball in a tube sock, knife, gun, etc etc.
2. Never pull a weapon that you are not using as you pull it. Never ever threaten to use something. If you pull a knife stick it in thier throat as you pull it out. If you have a bat or pipe try to keep it hid until you reach them, also sprint for them, dont walk, then swing as you pull it.
If you show a weapon, be scared enough to use it.

And yes, I do feel bad for throwing the kid in a fire. Although I do feel he was completely in the wrong, I don't think he deserved what I did to him. All I meant to do was break up the fight. If he comes looking for me, then fine, I'll fight him. But I know for a fact that he would not be alone. And I would feel bad afterwards if I had to shoot somebody. I know I could possibly go to jail for a long time. But as somebody stated before, I would rather be in jail than dead. One more thing, I still live with my parents. I have 4 younger sisters living with me, 3 of them being under 10 years old. I will not tolerate people coming to my house to start **** with me. If you're going to do something to me, do it elsewhere. In my mind, anybody who comes on to my property to harm me, is also planning to harm my family. Catch up to me at work or anywhere else, but not near my sisters.
As of now, though, I'm not really worried about it anymore. Last night when I posted this thread I was mildly intoxicated and coming down from an adreneline rush. My best friend was sitting in my living room with blood pouring from his face and his girlfriend was still crying. I was a little stressed. I have returned to (at least somewhat) rational thinking mode. I really want to stress that I am not the type who goes looking for trouble, and I usually do everything in my power to avoid it.
I really appreciate the advice, and hopefully this is where the story ends.
