Which would you choose?
Which would you choose?
I have to decide.....and I can't dad gummit, on a PS3 or a home theatre system. I have to choose only 1 or the other. for now
Now, I just got an HDTV, and I subscribed to all the HD channels Suddenlink offers. So....do I want the sound? Or, do I want the BLU RAY disk player in the PS3? ...and the games of course.
I know most will say "get both", and I agree. I just have to convince my finance manager (aka wife) why that's such a great idea. Didn't want to forget that detail....
I can't decide. Any ideas? What would you do, and why?
*i didn't spell check" :o

I thought home theatre system includes picture and sound.....guess you already lost that battle.
With the little one, are you limited to times when you can crank the sound up? If so, get the game. Then get the sound setup in a month or two.

Tough choice, but I'd go with the theater system for now. It'll make the HDTV and movies much more enjoyable for everyone (the boss, kids, guests)
Plus, look for the prices on the PS3 to drop quite a bit before Christmas. Make your move on the PS3 then.. "Look honey, they're on sale!"

Jamz,
Get the sound and finish off your system, then get the fun and games.
You don't have to spend much to get a real nice sounding system.
I bought the Onkyo HT-S790 (home theatre in a box) 7.1 channel, and it sounds fantastic.
It doesn't come with a player, however, if your next addition will be the PS3, then that will be your Blu-Ray player, or you can use your current DVD player in the meantime. Even a good quality upconverting DVD player doesnt cost much these days.
You have the Hi Def TV, the Sat Hi Def package, get the sound and finish it off, you will be glad you did. I have some pics in my gallery of my 7.1 set up, everything is mounted on the walls.
Here's a link for the Onkyo system, and it's cheap.

ps----> I'll be buying a PS3 soon too. They have an offer, buy any eligible Blu-Ray player, and receive 5 free Blu-Ray movies for free. The PS3 is eligible.

With out a question, beyond a shadow of doubt, I'd get sound.
Know how I know???
Becasue thats exactly what I did.
1. it's my personal preference I get more enjoyment out of the sound than a game. Sound comes before everything else. I will notice a bad sound system long beofre I notice anything else. Sometimes even before or if ever it's turned on. I notice the equipment, and set up and room design as soon as I walk in the door.
2. It's cool to show off your sound system when friends come over (Kind of dorky to show off your game console.)
3. You already have a Wii for games, so all you're really buying is a blue ray player. Cant enjoy that if you don't have atleast decent sound.

If it were me I would pick up the audio first.
For the following reasons:
1. You will use it everyday for both movies, music channels, and as a receiver.
2. There is no replacement for surround sound to complete the true movie experience.
3. The purchase price for Blu-Ray movies is about 30.00 each and the price for PS3 games is about 60.00 each. Spending money on these might keep pushing the purchase of your audio further away. Just a thought
I bought a Yamaha Theater in a Box for about 450.00 a year ago and now I could never imagine watching the big screen without it.

The only games I have are the ones that come pre-loaded on the computer! I'd get the sound!
I'd go with the Home Theater System for a number of reasons. The first and foremost being that I am a happy owner of an Xbox 360 and have no desire to own a PS3 (yet). The second reason, which pertains to you more than the previous one, is that there is still a format war going on between Blu Ray and HD DVD. Either one could "win" at this point, and if you're buying the PS3 to be used primarily as a Blu Ray player (which judging by your post, you are) you very well may end up with a stack of expensive Blu Ray movies that are obsolete in a couple years on the off chance HD DVD comes out on top.
Thanks everyone.
Playstation 3 - Um, My main reason for the PS3 was to kill 2 birds with one stone. The BluRay player was the main reason. I'll be able to watch all my mail order Blockbuster movies in Blu-Ray
....Games, they was just a gimme. I like gaming, but not as much as I used to. We found a little critter about 7 months ago and she consumes most of my time.
Habibibi, I'm researching that today. Yours is a 7.1, I think I'm going to have to go with a 2.1. I have an extremely small living room.
....and I think I am going to take all of y'alls abvice. Sound first.

I figure if she can buy a godzillion pair of shoes because they're on sale, then I can buy 1 piece of hardware.

You're absolutely right. Theatre system it is.
Oh BTW folks, it has to be a 2.1 channel system. I have a small, rinky dinky, cave like livingroom.
Theater system; for sure.
I have the same system as Habibi and I'm pleased with it.
Dude, Jamz....2.1? you've got to be kidding. Get the 7.1 and cram that sucker in there.
2.1 Isn't that Stereo?
