Honestly UC....If I tried to act like I know what I'm talking about, I'd make myself look MORE like a fool than usual.
I have the link Habibibi sent me and I have been reading up on it all morning. I am seriously leaning towards that system. Reviews are great, and it looks nice.
I was informed that a 2.1 channel system is the perfect solution for tight spaces, and I have a REALLY tight spot.
2.1 is stereo with a sub. (2 speakers; point one is the sub)
2.0 = straight stereo no sub
If the room is atleast the size of an extended cab pick up, you can achieve a fair level of depth with 5.1 (5 speakers; point one is the sub)
If the room is atleast 10x12 then you can squeeze in 7.1 (seven speakers; point one is the sub)
Of course the bigger the room the easier it is to place speakers so listeners can identify what directioon a paticular sound is coming from. The goal is, say if in teh movie a bird whistles behind the camera, you want that sound coming from behind the listner. You want to make yourself and guest turn around to see if there is a bird in the house.
I would definatly go ahead and get the 7.1. If your room truely isnt big enough, you can run it in 5.1. Then later, if you build or move or add on or anything, then you have the option to add the other 2 later.

Go with the HT and make sure that you get the .1 [subwoofer] Even in a small room, a good sub will make a world of difference. AND when you get the PS3, you can hook it up thru the surround. My kids love to play their games thru our surround system....might have something to do with the 12" 400w subwoofer that I have

I just got the PS 3 a couple weeks ago! The games rock in HD! I haven't watched a blu ray disk yet but I hear it's pretty sweet.
I think you made the right choice going with sound first....that way you can game in surround sound as well
. I will say that the PS3 is an awsome machine
....game, surf the net and watch movies all in HD and all from one console.....it does a ton of other things I haven't even gotten into yet!
I have a Sony surround but I'm going to look into that link on the first page....might be time to change it up a bit!
GAME ON!
PS. what kind of TV did you get?

Also, I may have missed the thread about your HDTV, but you say you want the Blu-Ray player...is your TV 1080P?? If not then Blu-Ray will still work, but you will not get the full benifit.
Just want to be sure you have the right gear for what you think you will be seeing..

I told him too, get 7.1 and worst case only use 5.1 for now.
I only have 5.1, will be upgrading soon. Are there many movies even put out with true 7 channel dolby or THX recording?
