Ice Road Trucker Show

Anyone watch it? It was on the History channel Tuesday night, I think it normally airs Sunday at 10:00pm

10 million dollars and a month to build a road that lasts for maybe 60 days. Looked like it would be an interesting trip.

where is this ice road that costs that much?

Ice roads are very common up in northern Alberta & BC and the territories, its the only way to get into most remote oil/gas plants as its usually chopper in/out only most of spring/summer/fall. The ones I'm used I don't think cost very much, all they do is grade the snow/ice on the cut lines. The river crossings and ice bridges look like they would take awhile to build. Spring breakup is the fun part of ice roads, as long as you are in a company truck.

Hell I always run at or about 5 below the speed limit but there's no way I could drive half way across Canada keeping that slow of a pace

I saw the show, very intriguing stuff!

If you go too fast the picture above shows what happens. The ice gives under the weight of the truck, accordingly the bottom of the ice gives as well. This in turn creates a wave in the water in front of the truck beneath the ice. Go too fast and this wave weakens and/or cracks the ice ahead of the truck...snap, crackle, pop and you break through. That's why the speed limit is set at 15mph.
