3) are they worth getting compared to a sport ute if i'm doing trail/offroad riding?

1) Average mileage on a raptor is 30-60 miles per tank. 2.9 gallon tank. In the dunes where your running harder and hitting big hills it will be more on the 30-40 side..
I went for a trail ride with a friend (lower speeds, cruising conditions) and we rode for about 2 hrs, then got lost for 3 more. We were both worried about running out of gas, when we got back we both had over half a tank left. He was on a 05 yfz.

2) I have put mine through some seriously deep mud with tons of ruts. And for the most part it did great. I was behind a polaris 400 4x4 and went everywhere it went. Of course I was completely soaked and covered in mud at the end of the day and he was bone dry. On a sport quad you just need to pick your lines better and if there is a way around the mud you may decide to take it sometimes..also the stock tires arn't the best on the raptor. I am going to get some mud lights or sur traks that are 1 size taller than mine. I think that will make a huge difference. I rode this winter through 6 inches or powder all over the river and still could climb hills and pass my friend on his 4x4 and he was shocked. Once we hit 8 inches of powder I really had to fight it. That was on stock tires also. Next year should be better with a taller tire and better traction.

3) I don't know anyone that is dissapointed with their raptor or any other quad above a 450 for that matter. You just have to accept it for what it is. If it's a sport ute there is going to be mud you will make it throught that a sport quad can't.
But the sport quad is going to give you a whole nother level of excitement. The handling and speed is pretty awesome on the 450's and above..I love to do a 4th gear wheelie past my friends on sport utes. I'll never get rid of my sport quad, but I'd like a 4x4 for those days that I really want to get crazy in the mud, and a plow would be nice for the winter as well.

Have you looked into the CAN-AM Renegade 800? It's a pretty sporty ute. It doesn't have a rack stock, but they sell them for it. And it's suppose to be fast as hell. But it comes with a pretty hefty price tag. That may be more along the lines of what your looking for. I've never rode one yet but I'm sure it'll be a nice ride.

I'd let you ride mine if you were close. Infact anyone that rides or would like to have some fun with their 4x4 truck, quads etc..., June 15-17 we are heading to Silver Lake sand dunes in Mears MI for a Raptor Rally. There should be a huge turn out and tons of fun. And I am more than happy to let someone try out my raptor(as long as you can pay for damages )
I gurantee you your eyes will

I just watched it! sweet vid man!
Those are perfect examples of mud I might try to avoid
Once I seen the first guy go in, I may try to go around it. But if not I'd be right there getting stuck and trying to see how far I could make it.
Hope you guys stay safe, one of our members just landed on his head (no helmet) and is in a coma. I know we're all adults and make our own decisions but I just don't want that to happen to anyone else..

Not to be nit-picky, but they take that measurement for the 650i from the center point of the rear axle which in fact is not a true ground clearance. A true ground clearance is from the lowest part of the quad from the ground. In reality, the control arms on the rear suspension are a few inches lower than the center hub therefor not having a true ground clearance of 10.1

Use this pic as a reference. Their measurement is to the part right below the ball. Look at the control arm angle to the tires and the ground clearance is much less.

Yeah, I'm hoping to do the big 3 next month, or at least the PC3 & intake. I want to go LTE duals but 600.00$ is a pretty heafty tag.
El mirage is pretty cool, I've only been there once but had a great time. You can really haul across that sucker when you un plug your speed sensor.Glamis and Dumont are still my fav's by far. Ocotillio is pretty awesom also, lots of diffent stuff to ride.
If you go to raptorforum.com the site sponsors will usually give you a decent discount on parts. It beats paying MSRP that's forsure.

I've got an old '98 Polaris Sportsman 500, and its my workhorse. IMO-Polaris is definately the cadillac of ATVs. The new Hondas have come along way from what they were. The Sportsman are fast (don't let the size fool you), especially those 800s.

You know where I stand and I know the other rappy riders will tell you the same.... www.raptorforum.com will tell you every thing you could ever imagine about raptors.
Like I said, if you can get to Silver lake sand dunes on the 15th feel free to go for a ride
