AS far as buying an F350 b/c gas for the F150 was getting too much....If all you got was 12mpg, then your MPG will proportionately be low with a diesel. Your driving habits are what keep your MPG that low.

1. Diesel fuel is more expensive than gasoline
2. Diesel maintenance is vastly more extensive than a gasoline engine (read - $$$)
3. Diesel oil changes are CRITICAL to their longevity. Diesel oil changes are roughly 3x's that of gasoline since they hold more oil.

The only reason a diesel would end up being a better deal in the LONG run is this very simple fact : You bought it to use it to make money. If you bought it to "look" cool, oh well, you're S.O.L. If you bought it b/c you haul trailers or cars or whatever on the side or as a main source of income, then the diesel will be the better vehicle.

Lets recap, diesel does NOT = saving $$ UNLESS you supplement it with a side business which can actually benefit from a diesels' load carrying capability.

Been there, done that, already know.
Diesel fuel is currently $.60 cheaper per gallon out here than regular.
Maintinence... Fuel filters cost the same, just need to be changed a little more often. Takes more oil, but with longer change intervals. It costs me $40 to change all 15 quarts of oil in my truck and the filter too, every 5,000 miles. And that is using Motorcraft oil and filter. It was costing me about $30 to change the oil on my 4.6 every 3,000 miles using dino lube. And I bought my PSD to haul a 3,000 lb 16' boat around.

I have no intention of getting rid of my 07. It's only 2 months old, but I love it. Probably the best truck I've ever owned.

So what it doesn't get great gas mileage. I know guys in 1999's with a 4.2 getting 10 mpg...I know guys with Dodge Dakotas getting 12 mpg. I know guys with 4Runners, Chevy Blazers, Ford Rangers, Jeep Wranglers, Ford Explorers, getting 10-14 miles per gallon. I get 14 around town and 18'ish on the highway.

Every time I go somewhere, I know that my girlfriend, my niece, or whoever I'm with is as safe as we can be while we're on the road. I know that my truck hauls what I ask it to haul and can pull anything I would ever think of throwing its way. I love the smoothness of the transmission and the fact that it's a tried and true 4-speed and not some retarded 6-speed transmission with gears between 1st and 2nd just to call it a more-than-4 speed. I love the fact that it drives like a cadillac. I've spent too many miles driving in beat up trucks with less-than-perfect suspension and lifted up Jeeps jarring my back on every bump to not appreciate the smooth ride that my F150 has.

I finally bought a truck with EVERYTHING I've wanted. Center console, power bucket seats, power windows, automatic transmission, decked out interior, moonroof...I love it.

Screw the competition...screw gas mileage. It's a small price to pay for safety.

You're correct, it isn't a coincidence. It is called "supply and demand." The supply is limited, therefore, as demand goes up, the price goes up.

In my State the AG has determiend that there is enough dirt on big oil to open and investigation. Too bad GW is "sleeping with the enemy." Other wise we might a nation-wide investigation going. But big oil has another 2 years before that has any chance of happening.
Riiiiiight. GW must be sleeping with Micro$oft, Bank of America, Wal-Mart, Trial Lawyers, and most of the big drug manufacturers as well.

If you can't afford it,don't buy it! As some of the other posters have stated,it's a truck,not a econowagon.!
I enjoy driving my 05 KR Screw,especially when I'm crusing down the interstate,I look at all the folks driving a box. I am master of all I survey.
As far as the "underpowered/terrible gas milage". I get 18 mpg combined city/highway & my dyno results are 289RWHP.
Not bad for a 6000 lb toy.

My next truck will be a diesel dunno when but sometime. Kinda sad I bought this thing to pull my tractor to tractor pulls, but getting 8-9mpg I can't afford to go anwhere this year. A diesel pulling it would get about the same milage mine get empty (upper teens)

Not to mention they sound cool

There are just a ton of people out there who have no common sense when it comes to vehicles and finances. 20-something men are the worst in this regard (a prime market for purchasing F-150's) but I also know plenty of 50-something men that are just as clueless when it comes to the relationship between vehicles and money......

Yup, my buddy pays $550 a month for his POS Monte Carlo. Barely gets by because of that. I swear a woman must have sold it to him, moron

I knew exactly what I was getting into with mileage when I bought the 150, and yes I think paying $4.20 a gallon is BS but I need a truck so I bought one.
Plus I like the safety of the full frame, when the Explorer was totalled by this jerkoff blowing a red at 70-80 and t-boning me the only thing that saved me was the frame. That Honda stopped dead as soon as it hit the rail.

That's a little more believable... though that extra 1,000lbs you had on the other car may have had a little bit to do with the results.

Still pushed me across two lanes and up the road a little after that, Im sure the weight difference helped too like ya said. Nothing beats having real steel around ya when it comes to safety.

Well, I just sold my 2007 F150 King Ranch SuperCrew 4x4 because I am a total car/truck nut and can't help myself. I am on my 66th or 67th personal vehicle (sort of lost count). I recently made the mistake of test driving an 08 F250 PSD FX4 CrewCab 4x4 and fell in love. The interior is fantastic (this FX4 had the black leather seats with contrasting stitching and lighter stone interior), the exterior styling is intimidating, and the power surge while driving this beast is just plain intoxicating. I don't drive my truck every day (I bought my KR in 2006 and it only had 7800 miles on it) so mileage is less of an issue. Besides, I doubt I will get worse performance since my F150 averaged only 12.2 mpg City driving.
