Digital Camera. Canon?

I am looking for a new digital camera, the current 1.3 MP olympus isn't cutting it anymore.. It rocked about 5 years ago.

From what I hear the Canon and Sony's are the better ones, especially for the $$.

I went to Worst Buy here in town, and they have a Canon A560 (7.0 mp)w/ image stabalizer or something like that for $230. I found the same camera on ebay for around $150 new. Then I start looking more and find some pretty sweet deals on the Canon A710 (8.0 mp w/ 4x zoom) for what I can get the a560 at worst buy for.

Anyone have any suggestions or expierence with these? Thanks for your help.

I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-F505V it's an older but still high end P&S. Equivelent model new runs about $800.

I love it!
It always gives me brilliant and sharp images.

At the studio we use Nikon D-50 and D-70 SLR's.
That will probably be my next purchase too, either the D50 or D70.
My smaller MP and cheaper Sony actually gives me a sharper image than the Nikon's but, they give much better color than mine and when they are printed you can not see the difference in sharpness but you can the color, the sharpness is only apparent on a computer montitor.

If you just want to point and shoot.. Canon SD630. Seriously the greatest camera I've ever seen & used. Check it out.

All taken by myself with my Canon Powershot G6 with its wireless remote(and a tripod of course). It has the longest lasting battery I've ever used too.

Here's a review.

There are some new Sony's coming out in about a month. Up to 15X zoom with Carl Zeiss lenses. They do show them on Sony's site. I am thinking about replacing my F707 with one of them.

Another vote for the Canon Powershot series. Great cameras.

If you're looking to spend on the cheap I got a Sony DSC-W100 (8.1 MP) that I'm really happy with for a compact digital, I mean we _are_ getting what we pay for... and I only paid $269 with s/h I think.

Just bought a Canon A550 (7.1 MP) for the fire dept I work for it seems really nice so far for being $100 less than my Sony. Bought it from Newegg in a "combo deal" & they threw in a 1 GB SD card too, not too shabby. We'll use it for document fire scenes and wrecks. It'll be plenty camera to get pics we can use for training and armchair quarterbacking calls. We call PD or SO if we need evidenciary photos.

It's replacing a Sony Mavica (1.x MP), we can finally throw the floppies away!!

Whatever you decide on, check prices on the net. I looked at worst buy and got my camera about $50 cheaper at beachcamera.com

We use a number of different Canon's at work and have found them to be very serviceable and durable cameras......
