Exclamation How to beat a speeding ticket?

Well I received a ticket for 90 in a 70 about a month ago. It is pretty cut and dry, Radar was used and what not but I figured I would give this a try anyway. I have a trial date set for next Thursday. Any suggestions on what I should do and how i should prepare would be greatly appreciated. I am in California so people with knowledge of Ca traffic law would be great.

I would suggest prayer...

Pray that the officer doesn't show up to the trial.

Anything less than that, and you're gonna pay- probably more than you would have if you had just paid the ticket. When it goes to trial, the judge can set the fine... Could be less, will likely be more.

I know Cali does thing differently, so- I too will wait to see what someone with Cali knowledge chimes in with.

You may be in for more hassle if you try to beat a ticket like that, if the cop got you dead bang.

The officers don't always have to show up to court in some states either, so that may be hit and miss.

I'd pay it if I were you and chalk it up as an expensive lesson learned.

You better have some reason why you took it to court when you go there. I dont think that judge is gonna be too happy if your wasting their time by just showing up hoping the officer wouldnt.

You better start reading up on the radar systems, maybe you can find something. Best I can offer is to ask the officer in court about how and when it was last calibrated and tested. A lot of reading to do so you dont look like an *** doing it.

Ive only gotten one, photo radar in the Cougar, the magistrate (traffic judge) let me go with just $10 in court fees since the fuse had blown and my dash was out (digital).

If they offer traffic school to reduce the penalty, you may want to consider it.

If you are ineligible, and have a good excuse, sometimes the judge will allow you to attend anyways.

If the penalty is severe, then you should get a lawyer. I had to do this for going 105 in a 70 zone (on the way to Vegas, middle of the desert...clocked by a plane). Rather than lose my license, the lawyer handled everything. He wasn't cheap, but 6 months of delays later, the pilot failed to show so it was dismissed.

Bring in a blown fuse and tell the court that you tried to tell the officer that you're speedometer didn't work so maybe you can get a fix it ticket. .

PS: My speedometer has been broken in my Mustang for a LOONG time!!

Gotta be careful on that, if you didnt actually tell the officer that at the scene the judge is more likely to believe the officer than someone who was speeding. They hear every excuse you can imagine thousands of times. I had to bring in my owners manual and a picture of the dash to prove it was digital. Usually if you dont act like an a-hole and have a legit reason they are good about these things.

Also, bring cash as courts don't take personal checks!

That was actually the route I was planning on taking. The speeding ticket happened in my BMW and I work for a BMW dealership so I was planning on creating a repair order stating the speedo has been cutting out and then create a fake fix, replace the instrument cluster or something. Take the customer copy of the repair order with me to court and see what happens. The only issue with that is I did not mention anything to the officer when pulled over. I just hope the cop does not show up to trial and it can be dismissed.

Sounds good but I'd delete the previous post just because some people on these forums have been known to get involved with things like this and you'll get your *** handed to you.

Yeah, perjury and presenting false documents in court is a good idea. Go that route Just take your lumps and pay the fine or go to traffic school.
