Here's something else to think about...

It might be the same as with the parents/kids as it is owners/dogs. I have taught for 30 years, and in that time I have seen wealthy and impoverished parents. While the wealthy/wealthier parents can give their kids the very best---athletic equipment and shoes/ clothes, education (private highs schools around the Cleveland area can cost nearly $20,000 per year, and some even more), computers, diet---does that mean that the impoverished parents, who cannot give their kids the vey best---love their children less? No, they love them as any parent would.

As you all know, I officiate. You can tell by the athletic shoes, baseball gloves, and bats that they wear and use---affluent people can spend beaucoup bucks on their kids, and have no problem with that---the ones on the "other side of the tracks" make do with what they can afford.

The same would be true with many pet owners and their pets. I admit, as with any situation, that there are many ignorant people, but the ones who truly care and love their pets may truly not be able to afford the top of the line pet food. As with their family, they do the very best that they can. One of my dogs has food allergies and grass/pollen allergies; we have to feed him Eukanuba KO Response, which can only be purchased from a vet (And we take him to the only veterinary allergist/dermatologist in Northern Ohio.) We also give him allergy injections at times during the allergy months. It ain't cheap, but we do the best we can. The others get PRo-Plan.

Like I said before, I understand that there are many truly stupid and/or ignorant people, but keep in mind that $$, as in any family budget---can only be stretched so far. It is important to read the labels and understand what goes into the dog food, as well as to talk to a vet to see what he or she recommends---but when it comes time to open the wallet, well, the budget is the one that talks there and makes the decision. They simply do as many of us do; they do the best with what they can.

I think Jamz said it best. Some people can't afford the more expensive pet food. I know, now some of you may be thinking, then don't own a pet. But my dog prior to my current dog was fed medium priced canned and dry dog food. She lived till she was 12 years old (average age for her breed) and healthy until the end.

I'm sure this is meant for me. But I don't have to clear my conscience when it comes to my pets. They were and are all healthy and loved very much.

In one ear and out the other.

Have you been watching this?? It just keeps getting better and better. The recall has been expanded to include more moist foods, a few select dog and cat treats and one brand of dry cat food!! Where is this going to end?? I'm scared to give my pets food but they have to eat. Some of you may think I've lost it but I quit feeding my dogs commercial moist dog food and started making them food instead. Hey, they love it and I know what's in it!! They don't get strictly moist food anyhow, only 1 cup each per day, the rest of their meal is the nasty dry crap!!

Here's some more info and lists of what's been recalled to date:

What gets me is how broad of a product that company makes. From high end down to house brand generics. How can this one company keep track of all their products without mixing up cheap stuff with high end stuff....or is it all the same?

Alot of hunters here feed that Diamond Crap its very bad for dogs gives them the runs in most cases and very fowl smell. I only use Pride in the black bag i think its 22/10 for my grown Walkers and the green bag puppy food i think its like 26/20 for my puppies. I swear by this food. These are for show and fox/deer dogs by the way. i have found that pride keeps the weight on them even during season when they can be gone for a few days to a week and their bodies dont break down that much if any like with most of the other food that pump them up and then 1 -2 days of running and they are almost bones. Also throw a little tuna in there a few day before and up until a hunt to help get a little more protien in thier system.

My pup stopped eating her Eukanuba a couple weeks ago, so I switched to Innova and she loves it! If you go to their website http://www.naturapet.com/ they've got a video addressing the recall and they talk about their product. Which, btw, contains no wheat gluten at all, plus they have their own plants that manufacture their dry food, and now b/c of what's been going on, they're going to buy or build their own canning facility to make their wet food.

Good stuff, thanks for the recommendation!

My cat has to have the w/d formula, which had me worried for a second when I saw that Hill's had recalled some of their products.

Their recall is listed at www.hillspet.com.
