Yesterday crap hit the fan at work and I got splattered, I intend to throw it back in the fan aiming for a few select and walk away while it all blows up behind me.

Ya know what.....it's almost scary how you and I are a lot alike.

We don't have a fan, but if we did, I'd be doing that today too.

I say quit. Retail sucks. I have a degree ni management from FSU and I was a sales associate/manager at Wal-Mart for 6 years. I decided to be a teacher so I got a job at a local middle school while I'm finishing my alternative certification. I kept my job at Wal-Mart for a little while because I wanted to go back full time during the summers to make extra cash. Then they told me that I'd have to work Saturdays and Sundays if I wanted to stay on. I said no way because I'm already working M-F at school. They told me they'd re-hire me for the summers. They made me quit so that they could pay me less should I decide to go work summers. Screw retail. And screw Wal-Mat. I'm so happy I ditched that place!

Yeah, it can be a cut-throat business...

Truth is, I should probably leave anyway. If I ever get laid off from my real job, I came in entry level there, and considering my management background and degree, I'd still have to climb the chain- and I wouldn't have time for that. I'd have to look elsewhere to get a decent starting salary.

Retail management doesn't seem to take too much- at least not on the floor. Same BS, slightly faster pace. The only stupid/hard part is managing employees to an ever fluctuating labor budget. That's what I hate about retail. You might work, M, Tu, Th, Fr, Sa, Su. Have Monday & Tuesday off , work Wednesday, Fri & Sat- then a half-day Sunday. You can't really plan a life around that kind of BS schedule, especially when the schedule is posted weekly- but it doesn't come out until Friday.

I think turnover would be a lot lower, if they'd just give people a decent and reliable schedule. When I was available daily, nothing p*ssed me off more than to close Friday night, then open Saturday morning.

Better sleep fast.

What's amazing is how many grown men, waith famiies to support, are in non-management positions in retail- with fluctuating hours like that, and a base of maybe $12 - $15 an hour.

I looked into going to Home Depot, they are on commission from what I hear, but they don't offer a decent employee discount.

Nah, not 4' 11" and 205 lbs... She was 4'11 and 97 lbs. But, it was 97 well-placed lbs. I was about 250 at the time.

4'11" and 205 doesn't sound like fun to me, but, I won't knock it, not having seen the potential candidate.

I haven't worked for HD for 8 years so things may have changed, but back then they didn't have ANY employee discount. They gave you a discount on HD stock. No commission either. There are "spiffs" though. Certain products are tagged in the system to give you this bonus if you sell it. Say you sell a certain riding mower, it has a $20 spiff, your sales # goes on the sale and you're $20 richer.

Woot Woot Wooot!!!!

Well we'll see how accurate that quiz is....
I start my new job as a photographer Wednesday morning.

Minor cut in pay but perks benefits and bonuses should come close to making up for that! Tomorrow I get to go inform my old company the news that they are indeed my old company. (I cant wait for this!!!!) Getting ready to type my letter of resignation now, now they get a full piece of my mind. I'd been holding back, biting my lip for a while, also gives me an opportunity to if I so choose to file some complaints with the State Board of Labor and Relations on them and not worry about the consequences cause they can't touch me now.

I'm so freaking excited, I cant wait to be doing something I truely enjoy again.

Got about 10 here. If the last couple days are the way its gonna stay around here I can wait till I give my notice. The company owner is starting to complain to the manager about our wages. Seems he isnt happy that Ive had OT a few times in the last few months. I work 14-16 hour shifts at regular pay (which is legally fine as long as I agree to it) and have never said a word about it, and he is pissed about 4 hours OT above my 80. And Ive been getting alot of crap from customers over another company screwing up, that I have no control over.

Started ranting about there being two of us on the clock for about 30 minutes, right now everyone is one 10 hour shifts, usually turns into 11 or 12.
Well, 6 more weeks and I can stick my grad papers in his face and tell him I dont need this **** Im educated

Rant off

You may want to consider before you flame. Legally they are not supposed to give a negative reference but that does not mean it won’t happen. Also you may wind up working with, or worse for, someone from your old employer someday down the road. You never know it’s a small world sometimes. Good luck on your new job!

Theres truth to that, but some employers need a kick in the ***. I think Im at the same point as PSS now. Im gonna give this place the 2 weeks notice and thats it. Im not training a replacement, and if the owner keeps pushing Im gonna have the labour board and workplace health and safety all over him. Could I run into someone he knows? Possibly, but its not likely.

I have thought of that, this is a very small town. My co workers are fine, I wont slander them, the company is based in another state and management here is immigrants from there. They dont care about us, so I dont care about them. If your going to operate in the state, then you need to follow the laws. I helped them get a foot hold in this town and become prosperous in it, all I get in return is a kick in the teeth. Some thanks....

My wife works in HR, they cant say anything negative, but all they have to say is I wont hire them again. Enough said.....
Thats not a negative or slandering in anyway, simply stating a fact. But some do cross the line and elaborate on why too.....

I'm a hometown boy, they are outsiders, it wouldn't be hard to get hard evidence for me to catch them if they try to slander me later.... Cha ching!!! Royalties for me.

One advantage to working at an airport, sure he knows alot of people around here. But so do I

I saved one big contract for this place and I get my wage premium taken away after I come back because they were short staffed

Like PSS said, he is from the town. People will know him better than the higher ups, not many people really care about upper management, the people who do the work are the ones customers and other companies see and know about.

I dont just know the people here, I'm related to 1/2 of them.

Blood runs thick in this town.
Everything form judges and lawyers to owners of manufacturing facilities in my family in this town.

I've thought about relocating several times, I know I could make more money else where and have more oppurtunities to do things I like. But the perks of a msall town are to binding. I honestly dont know if I have the backbone to make it some where with out my current community support.
