Any weightlifters here?

Just wondering if there are any fellow weight lifters here.

When I started lifitng 2 years ago, I was about 140 lbs. Then I really got hooked. Now, I'm 5'8, 165, Bench 270, Squat ~330, Deadlift 275, currently trying to bulk to 170-180.

All natural except a little creatine and protein shakes.

What type of routine do you enjoy? Any tips to pass on?

Boy you need to work them legs some more! I am like the opposite of everyone else. My bench is low and my squat is high.

Bench-210
Squat-355
Powerclean-201
Military- 160
Dead lift- Not ever maxed in dead lift but I'd say I can do a lot. I remember in like 5th grade I could do 180 so I am guesing quite a but more than that.

Max Bench-315
Max sqaut-400
Max shrug-455
Max ab curl-350

17 years old

Currently 255lbs, 6ft

For a healthy weight gain, make a shake. When my neighbor used to build, he had 3,500+ calorie shakes. Take some fresh fruit, high fat yogurt, whey, milk, ice cream, throw it in a blender and theres you weight gain!

camarothatcould: That sounds really good...I'll have to give it a try!

I would like to get my squat up to 370+ but that will take some time. I enjoy doing lots of 'core' lifts. (Heavy deadlifts, squats, etc) in my workouts.

What do your routines look like?

Man, im a little imberised to even put my maxs' on here. But here it goes.

Bench: 135
Squat: 135
Dead Lift: 205
Clean: 125

Before the insults, keep in mind I am the skinny guy that is 16 (since last saturday), 6' and weighs in at 142lbs. I would love to get big but I dont know how well it is going to work out with all the complicated eating habits and such that people say you should do. Also im new to the forum and would like to say hi to everyone.

For me it's not about a one rep max, but how much it LOOKS like I can lift.
Every work out is 4 sets of 10-12 reps on every exercise.
Day 1- chest and shoulders
Day 2- legs
Day 3- rest
Day 4- arms
Day 5- back
Day 6- rest
Day 7- start over
Takes about 45 minutes each day, and I work abs at the start of every workout.

I'm thinking His mind was a little further in the gutter than that. I might be wrong though. The Protein Shake and Oddly delicious comment made my mind go south.

Just keep working out and you will get strong. I don't know if I was even strong as you at 16. I remember my goal when I was around 20 was two 45s a side on the bench. Never even figured I'd one day get three a side... but it happened. Still have a chance to maybe get four. (40 lbs away)

P.S. I got an Epi LP

I don't remember my numbers exactly, so I'll ball park it...

Best ever:

6'1": 202 - 250 lbs. (1987 - 1996)
  • 40-yard dash: 4.7 (12th grade, stop watch)
  • 2-mile run: 12m:05s (18, AIT)
  • Push-ups (Army, correct) 82 in 90 seconds.
  • Sit-ups: (Army Correct) 75 in 2 minutes
  • Bench: 440 lbs. (1994, 25 years old)
  • Squat: 550 lbs. (12th grade)
  • Deadlift: 505 lbs (12th grade) one time, never really did that anymore)
  • Clean & Jerk: 250 (12th grade)
  • Leg-Press: 1,200
  • Dumbbell curls: (single hand) 75 lbs.
  • Dumbell curls: 130 lbs for 6 reps.
*

Now: 37 years old, and out-of-shape. (300 +)
  • 40-yard dash: (If I can kick it's ***, I'm not running)
  • 2-mile run: (See above)
  • Push-ups (Too lazy to get on the floor).
  • Sit-ups: (See above)
  • Bench: 370 lbs. (Right before Christmas, 37 y/0)
  • Squat: 500 (Calf Machine, not a real squat)
  • Deadlift: (Need my boys for more kids)
  • Clean & Jerk: Didn't like 'em in high school, won't do 'em now.
  • Leg-Press: 550 (Hadn't tried to go past that)
  • Dumbbell curls: (single hand) 75 lbs. (Current)
  • Dumbell curls: 130 lbs for 6 reps. (Current)
*

Did lose 22 lbs, but since school (college) started back, have only been to the gym 2-3 times...

^ Mine is similar to that

Mon. Bench/curl/and then if there is time left in class I do seated rows

Wed. Military/shrugs/curl/seated rows
Thurs. Powerclean(back)/then straight legged lifts
Fri. We don't lift on fridays so I usually play pickleball or kick ball...

This whole bodybuilding thing got addicting a couple years ago in college.

When I was in high school, I could bench 170, and weighed 135lbs, wearing a size 30 waist.
Now, I still have a size 30 waist and bench 270 and weigh 165. I've only been lifting for about 2 years and I see it as part of a balanced lifestyle, not my whole life like some lifters.

For the 16 year old, everyone's got to start somewhere. Heck, I'm a long way from being a "body builder", but Im pretty dam fit. Keep at it. Eat big and healthy, look into some good creatine and protein, and get on a workout 3-4 days per week with low reps and heavy weight (if you want to pack on weight) Go to www.discussbodybuilding.com, and start reading...lots of reading!

Oh, and I tried dealifts last weekend just to see what I could do (275 was a guess, and I did 325...heck I might be able to pound out 20 more lbs or so...I was surprised )

My workout consists of:
Day 1 Legs/Abs (ALWAYS legs at the beginning of the week!)
Day 2 Chest/Triceps
Day 3 Back/Biceps
Day 4 Shoulders

Tip: weighted crunches and hanging knee raises work wonders for cutting out your 6-pack!
