Each new O/S, regardless of who it is builds off the last one. There are very few all-new jumps. The last one was the jump from OS9 to OSX on the mac... THAT was all-new. Pure hardware doesn't pay. You gotta find a nitche you like and go after it. Networking pays well, but it will be 5-7 years before you hit the big-time fat cash. Security is big. Or go software and be a Linux/Unix engineer. It all depends what you like and what you think you'll be happy with.

I had Microsoft certs and let them go, they aren't worth crap anyhow.
I'll be finishing my Cyber-Forensics degree from Hopkins by year's end....it won't be worth diddly crap as well.
So I'm starting the Cisco track and hope to max at the CISSP.

something you my want to try is linux std.it runs from the cd rom you can crack wifi passwords and windows passwords it is pretty cool. you can get it here http://s-t-d.org/tools.html let me know what you think of it. one more thing have you ever flashed a linksys router with linux. you can do a lot with it i can turn the power for the wifi up and all kinds of stuff.
