Dont look at just the number itself, most of that is one time expenses to pay for the restructuring, not from daily operations.

Ever heard of the Fusion? Prtolly not since your head is buried up your rear end.
The Fusion is beating ALL of Ford's expectation, and out-doing ALL of the Jap competition in every single area. The Fusion was the FIRST new vehicle launch post over-haul.
The EDGE is next, and expectations are very high.
The F150 will be up for a remodel soon, and I'm sure it will be the best when it comes out, just likes it was in 2004.
No fraking crap Ford lost big $$ this year, they had no intentions of making a profit this year. They are going through a major shift in their business plan, which happens to be a long term plan, and this is something that has to be done.
If you want to cry about it, go sell your Ford, and buy a Toyota. We won't miss you, I promise.
For those of us with loyalty and a true passion for Fords, we will be rewarded with innovative and ground breaking vehicles for many years to come.
You go Luma...
I'm amazed at the amount of flat-out stupid things written in this thread! From the QC sucks, they have nothing worth selling, gas prices were not a problem, blah blah blah... my personal favorite:
What? Just out of curiousity what is the definition of consistent? Call me crazy, but doesn't that mean getting the same results over and over and over and over? So looking at today's front page of the paper and the last 13 years of Ford's history... how is losing 12 Billion consistant?
You guys just crack me up sometimes.... seriously, where do you guys come up with this stuff?!

I simply dont see how a company, any company, could afford to consistently lose billions. I just cannot wrap my mind around that...

Or was that someting new ford is building into their trucks now.....anticipatory acceleration maybe? the truck sensed the light was about to change so the engine revved without me touching the gas pedal? yeah....top notch quality.
I have that problem too... I have to make a deliberate effort to hit the brake in this truck. I don't know what Ford did, but it's like the brake pedal is too close to the accellerator. A number of times I've been sitting at the light and hear the engine idling harder than normal, or feel the truck moving forward- even though my foot is on the brake. I adjust my foot on the brake pedal, and the idling dies down. The pedals are so close, my foot is on the brake and the gas at the same time... This is another reason why I leave a good deal of space between myself and the car ahead of me.
I know some people drive with two feet (Why?) but for us right foot drivers, if you wear > 12, you may find this to be the case. Since I'm aware of it, it doesn't happen to me often, and I keep my distance- but, if you're reading this Ford, we sasquatches need either a smaller pedal, or it needs to be adjusted to the left maybe another 1/8th - 1/4 inch. My feet have been the same size since 11th grade (13), so it's not my feet that have changed...
I didn't have this problem in my 1999, 2000, 2001 or 2003 F-series and F-series based vehicles... I don't have a problem in the Fusion or Acura.
I haven't said anything about this before because I thought it was just me and my big paddles, but, apparently this has happened to more than just myself.
Me thinks you need to learn how to use those big clod hoppers of your Hersh. My 13/14s have never had an issue, even in a few sports cars that have tiny pedals packed together. I find sometimes in massive boots I must be more alert to my feet as you can't feel crap in boots with a few inches of rubber, leather, and metal surrounding your feet.

"Ford screwed up because I forgot to keep my foot on the brake at a stop. They should have made my truck idiot proof. They should know that some of us didn't pay attention in driver's ed. Its all Ford's fault."

And if you are still hung up on the fact that gas prices effected only Ford, then why did Toyota and Honda take market share when "gas prices" went up. Ford sells cars as well. If you said "gas prices effected truck sales", then I would agree. But to make a blanket statement that gas prices are to blame for Ford's low sales, then you are showing your ignorance.

Ford was hit harder than any automaker for one OBVIOUS (or at least I thought so) reason, THEY rely on the sales of large trucks and SUVS. Ford's bread and butter runs on a V8.
Honda and Toyota rely on the sales of mostly 4 cyl and some v6 engines.
Get it now?
Toyota and Honda were already in position to do well in a market where drivers were seeking gas efficient cars. Call it smart, or call it luck (the change in gas prices in a northerly fashion), but it just so happens that the Jap automakers make smaller cars, and were already doing so prior to the hike.
It's a very simple concept, really.

Actually, many other arms of the company have contributed to profits. FC is only one. Sereral overseas divisions turn a profit, as does Mazda now. Sure FC turns a nice profit, but not nearly enough to keep the company alive by itself. Basically half the company losses (though NA is the best at losing) and the other half performs.
Ford sold a staggering 100,000 LESS trucks in '06. Gee, I wonder if the huge sales dip of the largest profit making vehicle could impact the bottom line?! And the SAME reason why Honda/Toyota did well... they had and promoted fuel-efficient vehicles and SUVs... me thinks those 100,000 folks that didn't buy trucks went to get some gas-sippers since at the time the buzz wasn't out about the Fusion and the Edge was still a promise. Escape? Eh, has tough compitition in that segment. I'm not saying gas prices was the only thing, but a significant contribution to the company's woes. To think that gas prices didn't make a significant impact and get the ball rolling and help to expose the company's weak car line-up shows your ignorance, and that whole "3 out of 6" crap continues to show your narrow minded view on the company.
Answer me this... in spite of all this blight, why has Ford stock gone up today? Why are investors betting on Ford?!

I'm off to the bar to drink away some of my superior intelligence now.
