I really think that the main reason Ford is losing so much revenue is because of the fact that they simply haven't been keeping up with technology. For instance, they just added built in iPod support this year. Asian cars have had this since iPods came out. How about navigation systems, bluetooth, etc. The list goes on and on...

Asian car manufacturers are simply more up to date with the technology that they put into the cars. I doubt that they lose much from quality.

Bottom line is, they better change, and FAST.

Here you go Ron. Careful...if you DON'T take your foot off the pedals at a stop light you will fall over....but that's prolly poor design by the manufacturer.

A $12.7 billion loss for 2006?

Seems like not everybody has driven a Ford lately.

Funny thing is, Ford's $12.7 billion loss for 2006 is almost the same figure for Toyota's profits in 2006.

Sign of the times....

It might have something to do with Ford paying people not to work in 2007

Buyouts are a b**ch but I wouldn't mind for my boss to pay me 6 figures to hit the road.

F-150 is still the top selling truck in America. The rest of the line will come around. The mustang is helping and Edge's are flying off the lots.

Wow, this thread has drifted a bit from the original topic...

At any rate, Ford is losing $24k this minute, and next minute, and the next.....

So while "rise in fuel costs" have suddenly caused consumers to not buy Ford vehicles, manufacturers like Toyota and Honda show profits in the billions. If people are ignorant enough to blame "rise in fuel costs" for Ford's consistent loss of profits, instead of Ford not producing vehicles that the majority of consumers like, then Im not sure what to say.

I simply dont see how a company, any company, could afford to consistently lose billions. I just cannot wrap my mind around that...

The bottom line is that numbers dont lie, I can hear the empty statement that the F150 is the best selling truck, blah blah blah. But the bottom line is that if a company is not making money, then they will no longer be in business, period.

B/C Ford Credit bails them out every year... As is with most domestic manufactures.

There's a lot more than fuel costs that is hurting Ford. It's buyouts, pension, labor unions, lack of a competitive sedan over the past few years, poor business decision creating a lot of debt buying other "flagship brands". Not to mention the governtment has given toyota and honda some huge tax breaks to "help them" open plants over here. There's a lot too it. Ford is much too big to go anywhere. Changes in accounting a principles and all that other fun accounting stuff takes a few years to clear the books.

The problem is that with the exception of the Mustang, Ford makes NO cars worth a ****. No one wants to buy them.

Once they discontinue the crown vic and lose all the police business they will be really hurting

Ford didn't make smaller adjustments and upgrade manufacturing technology as fast as they should have. Now they are doing the employee buyouts and have a new CEO to make quick, deep changes. We will see losses for maybe the next few years. Robotics will play a huge part in manufacturing then profits should rebound. Robotics are expensive, but they do not require employee benefits.

So wait you dont keep your foot on the brake at a stop normally? Might be a good idea to change that practice...

I am willing to bet he is a left foot braker....

You've never driven a Fusion/Milan?? sweet car. I love my Focus ST... wouldn't own any other small car. The ford hating mags are panning the edge.. and it isn't my style, but it is selling well.
