Any guitar players here?
prs makes a good instrument
i like the pre-factory ones better, as they were more hands on in creation, but prs has consistently good quality...my tech has never encountered a bad prs (usa) neck, which says a lot
that being said, they are just kind of 'in between' in sound and feel for me (in between fender and gibson), so i'm not a huge fan...i've only owned one, a solid rosewood necked McCarty model that i bought at the Arlington show a couple of years ago, and it was a good guitar, but I sold it

ETA - The general consensus from the research I've been doing is that they're top shelf, very high quality pieces. The electronics and design gives them a half/half sound between a Strat and a Les Paul.

here's a short clip of a little jam clip, it's recording very crudely with a little pencil type computer mic straight off the speaker, but if you forgive the quality (and the playing
it's stock usa strat played clean on rhythm and a stock gibson R7 les paul on the lead

I've never heard those two guitars side by side, they really do sound drastically different.I'll probably buy something sometime next week, birthday present to myself and all. Any recommendations for a starter/practice amp? Sub $100, if that's possible?

Are tube amps really all that everyone says? I've been reading a lot online lately, and there's the camp that says "go tube or go home," and then there's the camp that says "solid state can sound like a tube amp."

you really have to check them out yourself--better yet, take your wife/girlfriend along...i've witnessed more than a few times that a female chooses the sound of a tube amp over a solid state when she knows nothing about either...female hearing range seems to include frequencies in which the difference is more pronounced...the guitar produces a lot of overtones, or sounds different from the fundamental note, and the way these overtones are amplified is the difference in tubes vs solid state for me
bear in mind that a solid state amp isn't going to sound horrible! i played ss for years until i started to pay more attention to my sound, so it's not something that should discourage anyone from playing
i would wholeheartedly recommend a tube amp if you can swing the cost, based on learning the long (and expensive) way through the years...i didn't understand it when i was younger, but after chasing a sound in my head that i could never get with solid state and modelling amps and effects, i finally discovered there was something to that simple guitar-->amp thing!
and that 5w is going to match or exceed the volume of much higher rated ss amps if/when you want to play louder

Another option is an electric guitar and buy a amp simulator that you can plug head phones into. I have a Behringer V-amp 2 that sounds very good through phones. There are many amp models and effects too within these units. So you can play clean or distort with reverb ec. ec. In addition you can plug in a cd to jam along with. They have CDs with backing tracks i.e everything but the guitar part. My real amp is Fender Prosonic all tube. But there is no need to buy an expensive amp until you decide if you are going to stick with it.
It's always cheaper to buy once...I'd rather buy something that I'll enjoy and get good feedback (ha, feedback, amp, ha) from the first time around.
Well, as usual poop hit the fan earlier this year and shot my guitar plans to hell. I'm back in the hunt again though, so I figured I'd bump this one back up.
i dont know if anyone has told you, but i think you are better off buying an acoustic guitar. if your just looking to practice here and there, maybe play for some friends or whatever. i sold my acoustic to buy my strat,an amp, the cords to plug it in,etc......all i really do is practice to myself, and play for buds and stuff RARELY. It is a really really big hassle to get all of this stuff out just to goof off to yourself and are limited to where you can practice,ie close to an outlet..., i really wish all i had now is my acoustic guitar, because personally i think it is easier to play (its what i started with), easier to get out and put up, and last, you won't get on everyone elses nerves.
The electrics pick up a whole lot of mistakes that dont sound so bad on an acoustic guitar. Its a lot easier to give up on an electric than it is on an acoustic, in my personal opinion.
anyway, rock on man!

Just get a starter pack, Squier makes a good inexpensive pack, or ibanez or line 6.. then if you'd like to move on you can upgrade, if you don't like it u didn't invest enough to regret it!
I started with a Squier strat, and a 15 watt crate amp..I liked it so I moved up and wound up getting:
B.C. Rich Warlock NJ series
Jay Turser (sg replica)
Fender P-Bass (sold it)
a couple acoustics.. nylon and steel
65 Watt Crate multi effect amp
A few pedals.. BOSS Metal Zone (my fave) & Distortion, Danelectro chorus, Korg multi effect pedal..
Recording equipment
and more..but it all came to an abrubt end when my chet got jacked in Feb.
all I got left is my nylon Acoustic... I've been working/putting $ on my truck too much to replace my losses.. I sure miss playing! I was even in the high school Jazz band, funnest thing was going out to competitions! I liked to play n e thing from jazz to Rock n' roll to Metal.. n e thing really
give it a try!!
