On Call

I was wondering if any of you have jobs that require you to be "on call" to come in at a moments notice. If so, are you compensated somehow for the amount of time you are on call? A friend is a union worker that is on call every other week and gets paid $1.50/hour when he is on call, weather or not he does anything. Of course he gets paid his normal hourly rate plus applicable overtime when he does come in. I do not get this $1.50/hour or anything like it. I tried doing some research to see if it was a legal requirement for the company to compensate you for on call time. It seems to me that it would be a requirement since they are restricting my travel, alcohol consumption, etc.

Anybody know where I could find something out like that?

I am not on call, but my drivers are. Depending on the hourly rate, they get on average about $2.25 an hour for on call. Plus normal pay rate if they are called out.

I am on call frequently & no, I am not compensated for it in any way. The fact I get to play with a $100,000,000 airplane when I do get called in is compensation enough.

KC-10 FE out...

I do tech support for banking software, we are available 24/7/365. Compensationf or the person who is on call is $200/week and we alternate weeks (though I take almost all of them because I really like the extra $200! LOL). Whether or not we get any calls or not, we get $200/wk. Some weeks it works out great, no calls at all. Some nights I'll be lucky to get 3 hours of sleep a night because of the calls coming in, so it balances itself out.

I'm on call occasionally at the restaurant I work at. It's to cover up for the retards who don't show up or call in sick. Word to the wise: If you call in sick, DON'T go out at night to the normal hangouts where everybody else at work goes.

I'm "on duty" 24/7 I only go "in service" 40 hours a week. If something arises I take care of it but I get nothing extra. It goes with the territory.

I am on call. If I am called into work I am payed a 4 hour service call. 4 hours added to my check (overtime or not) + The amount of hours I come in for. If I am called in for two hours I get six hours pay.

I'm on call every third week for apt. maintenance. Time and a half and 1 hour automatic for each call, plus any additional time required, but no compensation pay. Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you. (no offense Smokey) Peace, Dave.

I'm on call 24/7/365 at my part time job. No compensation other than the hours I put in when I work.
