how to fix pitbull problem

I would venture a guess that Labs of whatever color are one of the most popular breeds in the country. I can't think of one, NOT A SINGLE ATTACK by a Lab, ever. Feel free to post one if you know of one. My neighbor was attacked by dogs that looked like Pit Bulls. I don't think they were pure bred but they definitely looked like them.
Maybe I didn't comprehend that one perfectly; but, maybe you could have written it better if that's not what you meant.

Exactly my experience with every pit I've ever owned. In fact, I had one that thought it was the mother of 2 kittens we adopted.
I was at the vets today with my kids's Pomeranian (sp?) (yea I've grown to like this stupid mut of thiers a little bit too). He's in really bad shape, I was tottally expecting them to tell me to bring him home and put him down. So metally I'm preparing for teh worst and thinking how this os going to affect my girls.
As we were getting ready to take him back and start his IV, it was early in the AM and all the surgery patience were coming in. This tiny ankle bitter dog of some kind was standing next to me, in walked what looked like an english buld dog. This ankle bitter went ape ****. Hair on end, teeth showing the whole nine yards bouncing around like a rat on crack. The Bull Dog walks in and looks at him like EW EW you wanna play? Tail wagging tounge hanging out. (I could hear him saying "PLAAAYY?") like the pincher on the Over the Hedge movie. This made me smile.
This lady with the Bull Dog had him on a short leash that was barely long enough for him to touch the ground. This little ankle biter has wrapped himself around my ankles once or twice in his excitment. The lady wit hthe ankle bitter has teh gull to turn around and tell the lady with the Bull Dog that she should keep him restrained. The lady with the bull dog was very nicely and conservitive dressed, obviuosly a upper mid to high class lady. She was taken back and did not know what to say.
With this thread in mind I had to pipe in......
I said Excuse me?
That dog has done nothing but wag it's tail, yours has been growling and snapping it's teeth and almost tripped me. You need to control your dog.
At this time my dog is passed out barely alive in my arms, he has no idea of what is going on around him. Come to find out his blood sugar was still 600 even after insulin (400 is normal for a dog) so he was about to slip into a diabetic coma. Anyway, this lady replies "Why I never!" I replied "I bet you havent." then her husband/boyfrind or what ever steps up.
(by my other threads you know I'm on the fight today. This is not the thing for him to do) So I asked.... Is this your dog too?
He replied, "Yes, what of it?"
I asked. So when he went into atack mode shouldn't it have been your responsibility to take control of your dog?
No answer, he squares up
I said, Well???
No answer He picked up his dog and they took their meds or whatever and left.
Afterwards the other 4 or 5 people in there including the vet busted up laughing and kudos went around. This was one of those mocho guys you guys were talking about earlier, only he had an ankle biter. Apparenlty I later learned he is known to be a bully. Small town word gets around. Now I tottally expect to have to thump this numb skull in the future when he comes looking for me. I swear society has never grown up nor civilized, this is Highschool BS.

They called a little bit a go, he is not well. They are going to keep him over night. He is still severly dehydrated, and apparently developed an ulcer. He has been sick for a couple of days, hasnt ate in atleast 3. We had him there yeterday and got some antibiotics, the ysaid it was strep. Last night he couldn;t hold down water the second he drank it came right back up. When we woke up this morning he had started puking blood looked like it had coffee grinds in it. Doc says thats an ulcer. When they called, he is still dehydrated, sugar is still high, he had some blood coming out of his nose and when they wiped it then a puss started comeing out, they dont know if for sure if thats from the strep in his throat or what.
The poor guys having a hard time. If he makes it I'm, changing his name to Lucky.

IMO pets are no better than their owners. It goes the same for kids these days. Parents or owners let their kids or dogs run wild with no supervision will have problems. As will the neighbors. People need to be more responsible for their actions and responsible for their kids/dogs actions.
OK off my soapbox…….

Wow can't believe I came in so late int he conversation! First off, I'm a big-time dog lover. I love em more than people. I am the volunteer coordinator for Denvers only no-kill animal shelter, and Denver is the biggest city in the nation to outlaw pit bulls completely. People have to move, or put them down. Unfortunately we sometimes end up with them. I say unforutnately not because I dont like pits, but because its really hard on families that have had them for pets for years and years and are now forced to give them up. Legally, we aren't even allowed ot keep them but we can offer them refuge until we can try to find a home outside of city limits, unfortunately more and more cities in teh metro area are following suit, feeling if they don't their city will soon become a pit dumping ground.
I think any ban based solely on breed is retarded. Many of the favorite dogs to go through the shelter have been pits. They are incredibly smart, loyal, and friendly dogs. Unfortunately about 3% of the peoplet hat get pits get them because they are a "bad-***" dog and will ehlp their rep in the neighborhood, and those are the pits that kill and give them a bad name, for the most part. The amount of people administered to hospitals for ****er spaniel bites is much more than pit bull bites. Unfortunately pit bulls are bred to bite and not stop biting until what they are going for is dead, wh ich is why many kids and even adults end up dying as a result of their attacks. I feel sorry for anyone who has been attacked by one, but I feel sorry for anyone attacked by a German SHephard, Labrador, or Dalmation as well.

3. Yes, I do think 90% of society is stupid. This is not exclusively an American thing, lots or foreign countries (remember, I travel for a living & get to see them in their natural habitat) have really stupid people too. If you have ANY doubt, look at the sledding thread started by WSTALHM80.
4. (this is the biggest point I'm trying to make) ANYONE should have drawn the natural conclusion from the comparison to Labs & Pitbulls. I was not slighting Pitbulls. Like I said, I could care less about whatever breed a dog is. If it is a friendly loyal companion to its owner then I don't care if it's a Pitbull/Siberian Tiger mix. The point I inferred (a point I thought I made clearly but I guess I need to re-read my typing) is that Labs are almost guaranteed to be more numerous in the USofA than Pitbulls. You never hear about a Yellow Lab killing a 5 year old little girl. Sadly, when you do hear about a dog attack, it's 90% likely it will be a Pitbull. I said quite clearly I chalked this up to bad press. I never said Labs were better dogs, I simply inferred that Pitbulls have negative press against them. Again, I thought everyone would draw the same conclusion from the words I typed.
5. I definitely meant to make the slight against the looney left. Only a liberal nimrod would have a website suggesting that animals are to have more rights than humans.
6. I definitely weep for society & often. The people of the next generation after mine are far more concerned with who gonna take the next pic of Britney Spears naked cooch than whether or not they finish their homework. They are far more concerned with the finalist on American Idol than serving their country or getting a decent job. The way they see it, Mommy & Daddy or the Government will provide for them. They are far more concerned with putting a fartcan on a Civic or a lift the didn't pay for on their truck that they didn't pay for than actually contributing something meaningful to society. Think about it, there are several on this board that fall into this genre. I make this prediction: Because of these kind of people, the USofA as we know it will cease to exist in my lifetime. I SINCERELY hope I'm wrong. Again, look no farther than the sledding thread. Society is on a downward spiral out of control.

Whatever. It really doesn't matter.
I must have missed the sledding thread.
Hey Odin -
FWIW, I took KC-10 FE's post EXACTLY like you did...
Hey Bubbadewsky -
You are living proof that contraceptives should not be optional, in some cases...
NEVER is there a reason to kill an animal in the manner you reference - you are worse than the dog you profess to have needed protection from.
Dogs are typically a direct reflection of their owner(s). I agree, it is bad when ANY dog bites a person. However, 99.999999% of the time, I guarantee there is a stupid human involved in the incident.
The stupid human, BTW, is not necessarily the person who is bitten - I always ask where the children's parents are / were when these things happen ??
Anyone who does not supervise their dog / children / horse / etc. is part of the real problem.
Lets do away with EVERYTHING that can harm us - starting with stupid people.

Some initial cursory info.
The breeds most often involved in fatal attacks are Rottweilers and Pit bulls.
In the United States, pit bulls make up one to three per cent of the overall dog population and cause more than 50 per cent of serious attacks.
Of the 27 people who died as a result of dog bite attacks in 1997 and 1998, 67% involved unrestrained dogs on the owner's property; 19% involved unrestrained dogs off the owner's property; 11% involved restrained dogs on the owner's property; and 4% involved a restrained dog off the owner's property.
Of the 27 people who died as a result of dog bite attacks during 1997 and 1998, 67% involved an attack by one dog; 19% involved an attack by two dogs; and 15% involved an attack by 3 or more dogs.
From 1979 to 1998, at least 25 breeds of dogs have been involved in bite related deaths. Pit Bulls and Rottweilers were involved in more than 50 percent of these incidences
