I have a friend that has a feral cat problem, he and his wife trap them and take them to the spca.

Might be a way to solve the dog problems as kc-10 sujests.

I've had the same problem at my house. My former neighbor spent 2 weeks or so in a hospital bed from a dog attack. He was mauled by two strays. They looked like Pits but I'm not sure if they were. If they were, they were definitely not pure bred. I called the cops during the attack & they didn't do anything or even respond. I finally got them to respond by asking them if I could shoot the dogs. When they showed up, they didn't rush to the medical aid of the individual. No, they showed up & asked me where my gun was. I told them to go F themselves. My neighbor has since moved. He moved right after he settled his lawsuit with the offending jurisdiction.

So thru all this BS, what is a reasonable suggestion for a problem dog/animal? You can't shoot them in crowded residential areas. Poison could get something that was not intended to be poisoned. Hooks in meat are beyond cruel. Asking the owners to do anything is pretty much useless. If no one (myself included) has any decent suggestion then this thread is pretty much useless banter.

My only suggestion would be a baited trap & then turn the animal into the pound. Another neighbor did that to reduce the stray cat count around our houses. For every cat she caught, she caught 2 racoons. Let me tell you, racoons DO NOT like to be caught in a trap.

Well I guess to give him a real answer a little more information is required. Just because he says they are to pit bulls is he a 100% sure that is what they are and even if they are not and just some mutt is he 100% sure they are aggressive.

Is the house in a subdivision?
Are there other neighbors having the same problem?
Have the dogs showed signs of aggression?
Is this happen everyday?
Does he have a dog and if so have the "pit bulls" every showed it aggresion?

In the news today:

Dog Shot in Residential Raid
Jason McIntyre
Friday, January 5, 2007

Ottawa Police's Guns and Gangs Unit conducted a search of a south-end residence Thursday afternoon.

During the sweep, the tactical team was attacked by what has been described as a pit-bull.

An officer was forced to shoot the animal. The dog's wound was treated on scene and then at an animal hospital. It has since been returned to an acquiatance of the owner.

The raid netted an assault rifle, ammunition, and two male suspects who have not yet been charged.
Most of the drug dealers (Some I knew) keep pitbulls.
As well as young kids trying to be cool.

A young guy 20s has a couple of them that have attacked people and kids 4 times yet they keep giving this retard back the dogs!

Once again it could be a case of mistaken idenity!

And if the dog was that much of a threat why would they return the dog to a friend.

WOW did you ever miss the point.. What I'm trying to get some of you to understand is that most of the time If Law enforcment of whoever for that matter can not identify the dog they call it a PIT BULL. This is just one more thing to prove my point if it was a pit then they were right in calling it that but if it was not then that just gives you a little more incorrect information to pass along to others. And add to that bad repution on the breed. Again must not have to much of a Bad **** PIT BULL if he was given right back to a friend! Think about it how bad could he be they returned him

This is the problem with society..... If there is not a quick clear answer everyone just sits and watches not knowing what to do. To self centered to risk getting hurt or getting in trouble themselfs to aid a fellow human being.... Here is where I weep.

KC that is a time when I would of
A: Grabbed a .22 with sub sonics, ran to the aid of my neighbor. (dont care where I lived this would be in my aresenal and this is a time worthy of getting caught with it.)
B. Grabbed an axe and ran to the aid of my neighbor
C. Grabbed a hatcthet and ran to the aid of my neighbor.
D: Grabbed a stick and ran to the aid of my neiighbor.
E. put boot to *** and ran ot the aid of my neighbor.

I would have been out there in nothing but my boxers fighting if thats all I had on, totall disregard for self, wouldn't have even taken time to put on shoes. If I had the .22 with sub sonics then I would have sprinted out there quitely and poped them both in the head. Everything else I would have sprinted screaming like a banshee makeing as much noise as I could hoping one of the women in the neighborhood heard to make the call for help and hopefully spook the dogs.
I would expect every man that heard to be out there to help. Although I realise the neighborhoods you guys are describing the men apparently have become a bunch of pansies and non of the so called "men" would not likely have the guts to step up. The majority would just stand there going..." This is bad."

If I was being attacked and I knew someone just watched it happen.... I'd move away too. Thats taking the "watch" in Neighberhood Watch just a little to literally.

As far as the Raccons in a live trap.... hehe, yea, I'm a coon hunter, we trap those to train our dogs, there is a way to handle them. What is worse is when you accidentally catch a skunk.

Make no mistake about it, I'm not passing judgment on you.

You asked:
what is a reasonable suggestion for a problem dog/animal?
Like everything else in life, there is not a clear black and white answer no matter how bad we'd like to skate through life and have all the answers given to us. As men in our society the rules of engagent are different than if we were women. And those rules are different case by case, for your case thats what I would have done. Now that it's over, after wintnessing such an event I'd probably hunt those dogs down. Would not wipe every potential stray in the country side out, killing every dog I seen, but those dogs yes.

The pansie *** city folk is a general opinion based on postings in this thread, not judgment.....

Where are the leaders???????
A man does what needs to be done at the moment, a follower waits for instructions.
