I give you phone techs too much credit I guess huh?

Well, we support the actual connection. We support email (if it's our domain, or a domain we host)..we do not support the customers internal network, but we can assist in setting routers static.

Simple job, any monkey can do it.

I think you guys are trying to hurt my feelings and make me cry...but I'm in a really good mood today, so fire away.

Actually having sat on your side of the phone as a tech and a manager for 4 years I have the utmost sympathy for you guys.

It is a job that was easily the most frustrating I've ever had...dealing with complete morons call after call. If you fix it...you did you job...if you can't you get yelled at...I got burned out fast.

I had the most fun in that job with the people I worked with but the phone time sucked

I think this is the second threat we've derailed to this topic so I'll just leave it at that.

Ahh man.... I had to take my dog to the vet and missed everything.....

I know phone techs, dont have to work on a wireless router... just have the costomer reset them....

Yea jamz that WRT54G is a 4 port automatic switch, means you can use pretty much use any cable on it "even crssover" and it will automatically detect and adjust plus it has the lan port for your modem plus the infinite wireless, thoug hI suggest limmiting the wireless connections to just the amount of devices you have plus 1 or 2.

So laptop and WII = 4 available connections

If more than 2 friends come over with laptops.... go in and add a couple tell they leave.
I've been wireless for two years I can imagine going back.
As your network grows you soon find that 4 ports are not enough either.

My setup
My desktop (hard wired)
network printer (hard wired) (wirless print servers are avaialble cheap)
250 gig hard drive in extranal housing for file storage (hardwired)
Wifes laptop (wireless)
Oldest daughter laptop (wireless)
Youngest daughters desktop (wireless)
Media extender (wireless) "lets youy watch media from your computer on your TV through wireless connection"

coming soon
Wireless video capture (lets you use your computer as a DVR through wireless network) and record TV, satelite or cable.

Alright, so this is what I need to buy this weekend:

Wireless router (50-60 bucks)
New Hard Drive (50-80 bucks)

Man, you guys are gonna break me.

Tical, it's 100% natural for one of my threads to drift. I like it that way.

thats why I have my 250GB external on the network. I might beable to get the **** on a 80GB.... hehe

The Dell I just bought a few months ago came wit han 80GB, other wise a 20 GB internal is enough for me, I dont store much locally. It's only there to hold the OS and programs...... So if it crashs.... reformat and reinstall. no biggie, no worries.
