Depends on the company really. For OTR drivers, if you want to make money, you have to live on the road. I did long haul for 5 years. I came off the road and took a job delivering food to restaurants and kitchens. I made as much the first year as I ever made driving OTR. I now make twice what I did 11 years ago and I'm home every night and have weekends off. Put that up against driving 4 weeks straight, taking 4 days off, and then doing it again. They really don't pay enough for the hassel involved. Not to mention the cramp on your social life. I wouldn't advise anyone under the age of 40 driving long haul. It'll wreck your home for sure.
