Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander

Ok so I'm finally down to the point where we are going to make a purchase in the next few weeks and we've narrowed our search to basically these two vehicles. My budget is $35,000. I'm leaning toward the Pilot

I like the Edge but don't trust a first year vehicle. (Except the 04 F-150 )

My wife needs a nice safe vehicle for her and the kids.

Does anyone have experience with either vehicle? Likes or dislikes?

Opinions wanted...Thanks

My sister and brother-law have a Pilot and they love it. No problems with it.
Check out the Chevy Equinox too! They are really nice.

Don't be afraid of the Edge Vader. Its built on a stretched version of the Fusion chassis and God knows Ford DID get that car right. The 3.5 V-6 is new but Ford has never had a problem with these 60 degree V-6's.

If you get the Edge, I think you will be disappointed. Those things tip the scales at about 4600 lbs. which is way...... too much for the type of vehicle it is. with that much weight gas mileage is going to suffer, you would be better off with the Honda, at least they have a rep of getting better mileage and better reliabity.

I wouldn't trust a first year vehicle either, got burned on a 2000 focus.

I might take a look at the Edge but it would have to be amazing to sway me.

They got the Fusion right so it bodes well but I'm just not positive yet

Hondas are great for women drivers I suppose, small, good on gas, and cheep.

the Pilot is a crossover SUV, same with the Toyota, there not real SUV's, just a van that sits up higher then a car.

If it makes you feel any better (or worse...) Ford has delayed the release of the Edge and MKX for supposed "quality problems" after the automotive media ripped on 'em for the poor brakes and poor fit and finish. Ideally, to get 'em right before releasing them on the masses.

Well the Honda is more expensive than the Ford so I don't know about "cheep" [sic]

My wife doesn't need true SUV ability. We considered a 4runner but decided she didn't need that much of a "truck"

Q, I noticed that...the Edge keeps getting delayed. I'm glad they aren't rushing it but I don't like that it isn't available yet.

No complaints about road noise? That was the one thing Consumer reports mentioned.

I'll let you know. I have to call my sister later today anyways. I'll ask her.

The only bad press I've read on it is its too heavy. They still say it has plenty of power with the new engine so no biggie I would think. I would rather have a little more metal around me for these Texas drivers. The reason we heard for the delay was to fill the supply pipeline before they were released for shipping. We have 10-12 coming in a week or so. Ford didn't want the shortage problems that they had with the Fusion and the Mustang.

Vader, my wife and I have been looking at a Pilot her too. So far, I can't find anything bad about it. We have a couple of friends that own them and they love them, and so far have been trouble free. I would go for the Pilot myself.

also Matty, I'll bet that Pilot will be running years after that Mounty you have kills over. Check out the size of it too, it's not small as you say.

The Honda Pilot...

It's the Acura MDX's Bigger, less-expensive first cousin. All the bells & whistles, and stay under $35,000.

Vader, the 2007 Acura MDX's are out- they are damn-near giving away the 06's. You can probably land an MDX Touring w/Navi (Unless you need every inch of room) in the same price range.

If you get the MDX, welcome into the fold... www.acuramdx.org

my sister has had her AWD highlander for aabout 1.5 years and everyone loves it. she got the limited which has the leather seats and navigation, but that thing is a very nice vehicle. She is around 5'4" and it fits her great and I am 6'4" and it fits me great (with adjusting the seat, of course). She has taken it up to reno many times to go snowboarding and it has gotten through some nasty weather and the full time AWD makes it so nice and easy to drive in the rain if you have a lead foot. it really feels like a car (probably because it is on a car chassis).
but my f150 is faster
