Who's Debt Free?
House will be paid for buy the time I'm 45 (6 years). No other debt other than a small home equity line. Getting ready to start a new job where I'll make over double my current income, if I want the OT. Life is good
How the he!! can you people get your houses paid off so soon?
Debt free? Not even close. I'm banking on the assumption that I will be able to work for another thirty five years. The way I feel now, I'm not so sure this is a wise investment.

Let's see---with a daughter who is a junior in college, and a son who is going to college---a mortgage and four labrador retrievers---ah, nope. Not Debt Free. I do not use credt cards very often, and, when I do, I pay them off if I can---but the house is an investment, as are my childrens' education.

Lets see, I'm 35, I owe 13 years on the house, 3 years on the Honda and have about 1500 in CC debt. Truck is paid for. I guess it's not too bad compared to alot of other people, but I have a 10 year old that will be going to College (hopefully) in roughly 8 years, so I'm not looking too forward to that...

If you can handle the note, refi the house for say 15 years or less, depending on how long you have left on it now. If not, then send extra money when you have it, ie: Tax refund, bonus anything extra you may come across. It will all add up in the end. But it takes a lot of discipline, and unfortunately most of us don't have that.

Went without for 13 years and made double payments every month, and paid it off.......LOT'S less interest. One payment was principal with interest (normal payment) and one payment went all to principal (second payment).
Saved about 100k doing it that way.
Went without for 13 years.
Life is good, now.
When interest was low, I went with a 10 year loan (4.5%). On $100,000 interest was $30,000 for ten years or $130,000 for 20 years. If you can, take the short term. If it makes you nervous, take a longer term and double up as often as possible.
$0.00 here.
The only thing here is this months American Express...and I have not looked at it yet
Though the ol' bank account is looking slim: braces last month for the oldest: $2800.00 for stage 1....three more to go after that...ugh
And with the holidays coming up, may need to raid some of the savings...Or send the wife to work......hmmmmm
