360HP bone stock with a warranty is nothing to laugh at. If I'm not mistaken, that's only 20hp shy of a stock lightning. Then there's the fact that it's reliable as the sun rise. I can't speak about yours but a FE in my squadron has a lightning and he has to do serious maintenance EVERY time he drag races it. He's put new heads on it twice. His truck is a joke. It makes 560rwhp (I've seen the dyno sheet) but he can't drive it to Wawa & back with out a tool kit and maintenance manual. In fact it takes a blower to put any Ford into the HP lead. Just look at the new Donkey, I mean Mustang, it only took them 43 years and they JUST NOW have the HP of a stock Dodge Neon SRT4. Way to go Ford.

I'll be the first one to say it... I'm waiting one year for the bugs to get worked out & the 6 speed auto trans then this Ford is gone. Most likely going to get a GMC but who knows.

Wait, so someone modded the living crap out of their truck, almost doubling the power output and someone thinks that has more than absolutely minimal bearing on how well Ford built the truck?

the guy could have done any number of a million things wrong when modding it, how can you possibly use that as an example of quality/reliability?

I'm not implying that at all. Ford marketed the vehicle as a "Race Truck". That's what he does with it. In the quest for more power (is there ever enough?) he modded the crap out of it & now it's about as reliable as a 1982 Fiat. I'm just saying don't knock a vehicle that has 360hp stock & comes with a warranty. The overall point I'm trying to make is I think it's retarded how much people are brainwashed into think that Ford, only Ford, nothing but Ford is the ONLY thing on the planet that is good/reliable/safe/quality/practical/powerful/etc... It's quite sad & comical at the same time. They must give away a lifetime supply of the Jonestown Kool Aid with all vehicle purchases.

I prefer to buy American whenever possible. That said, I have 1 out of 4 vehicles by an American company. Ford (neither does GM or D/C) doesn't make a single (that's right not a single one) quality passenger car that is in one package:
pratical
reliable
fun to drive
powerful
looks good
That's why my Wife has a VW GTI in the drive way next to my truck.

No American motorcycle company makes a sportbike that meets the same criteria so that's why I have a 2000 VFR800fi.

No American motorcycle company makes a great beginner's bike that has enough power to keep her interested for more than 2 weeks so that's why the Wife has a 1989 Honda Hawk GT.

Thumbs up

Gotcha. But I would have to disagree on the car comment, you should read up on the new Fusion. It is already hitting over 100% of goals and is coming back with initial ratings higher than CAMRY and Altima.... looks like Ford nailed it with the Fusion.

Not quite, the Fusion is about as much fun to drive as a riding lawn mower. & yes, I did drive 3 of them. If they get 250hp in it I might take a 2nd look.

i'll have to disagree with the 360hp SS, even the new 07's are listed with a 6.0L 345hp/380lb/ft. that's about the same power as a hemi. the Lightning's flat torque curve, and 450lb/ft, is enough to keep it from being a race at all. i have 2 Gen II Lightnings, a 99 and a 03, close to 200,000 lightning miles, without a single problem, that would require a dealer visit. they are heavily modded 500rwhp+, and are wrenched accordingly. if it wasn't one of the finest vehicles i've owned, i wouldn't have gotten another one, when i turned in my Lexus GS430. I will agree with you on this one, , my 2000 VFR, is sweet

The guy I work with must not know what he's doing then. I know every Sunday he's wrenching on his truck to fix what he broke on Saturday.

Is that a Staintune exhaust? If hearing a VFR V4 with a Staintune exhaust (spud removed of course) isn't music then I don't know what is. SOunds like a miniature V8 coming down the road.

You know your Viffers, that's a staintune sans/spud. i've actually been asked by Harley guys about the exhaust note.
