America still uses imperial measurments for everything
But my truck has 5.4 litre stamped on the side????
Why is this?

We just blame the French in the UK!

I can blame the brits though for making the so-called car my dad bought back in 1967, the british racing green '67 MGB roadster convertible that sits in his garage still to this day. It I think the cat uses it as a bed. That car is an engineering marvel. NOT!

A few words of advice: Don't drive an MG any farther than you want to push it, trust me.

The problems with the MG is because it was built back in the days before metric
So why not have 351 on the side instead of 5.4 litre?

Yes, but even with the problems with that car I'll still take it. It's easy to work on. Now if I could get my old man to get the thing restored like he said he would it would be sitting in my garage. I like the hood pull **** too, it has a b on it for bonnet.

[QUOTE=Grandthroblord]America still uses imperial measurments for everything

If America uses Imperial measurements and Canada used Imperial before metric, why is the American gallon about 4 litres and the Canadian gallon 4.5 litres? The Canadian gallon of water is 10 pounds and the American about 8 or 9 pounds. Somewhere along the line one varied from Imperial.

I remember all the metric education we got in elementary school back in the '70's..."By 19XX, everything in the US will be metric, so you have to get used to it..." And then everyone in the US simply failed to follow directions. At some point the government quit wasting resources trying to take away our miles and give us kilometers. The only folks in the US that understand kilometers are immigrants or recent military veterans.

I have to say, having started out with european cars, I prefer the metric fasteners - I know the difference between 13mm and 15mm by sight, but I haven't a clue if I'm looking at an 11/16" bolt or a 3/4" one.

Well first off a 5.4 is actually closer to a 330.

Here's my W.A.G. The car builders started to change in the 70's when the G said we were going to use metric. Since that time they made partnerships and purchased several foreign car builders. Since we started using metric and had a general understanding of it, it was easier for us to stay using metric for the engine sizes rather than trying to explain our screwed up system to the foreigners.
