Why is this?...
Blame it on the Chevy Vega.

The US was all about cubic inches, (409, 440, 396 etc...)

Along comes the Vega in 1971, what is the engine size? 1998 cubic centimeters.

If they advertised as what it was, 122 cubic inches, you would have been laughed off the street.

The seventies oil crises and the downsize of engines caused a big drop in engine size, switching to liters masked that from the consumer.

It also made comparison shopping easier when the car invasion from Japan and Europe hit.

DING DING DING
We have a winner!

My solution, use the average of the HP/Torque rating.

Example, if it is 325 hp with 275 ft lbs of torque then (325 + 275) /2 = 300. So the engine would then be called a 300.

Just imagine the benefit, it wouldn't be a cubic inch number war, it wouldn't be a liters number war. It would be closer to a performance war.

Don't you mean 1.876m, 136.08kg?
