I figured maybe the third time would be the charm for 1911s.

Just a base Kimber Custom II. Ran a couple hundred rounds through it yesterday with no malfunctions.

I have never needed one I don't know anyone who needs one or wants one
Why have 20mm sniper rifles for personal protection and hunting!
Why have a 9mm for protection?
It is all crazy
I live in the UK and have not been brought up around guns so just dont understand why?

What hapened to the first 2?

The first one was the aforementioned Springfield "Loaded" model. It ran so-so, had erratic case ejection and occasional stovepipes, I put an Ed Brown extractor in it and it helped, but I didn't really feel comfortable carrying it anymore. I sold it to a friend, advising him to use that gun as a range gun only unless he felt good that all the bugs were worked out of it. If/when I buy another Springfield, I'll get a Professional model.
The second one was a NRM Series 80 Stainless Colt Combat Commander. The fit and finish of that gun wasn't all that great, but it did run good. Had to adjust the extractor in it too to get consistent ejection results, but it ran 100% with whatever I put through it. I (stupidly) sold it to fund my highpower addiction. I plan on buying another NRM Colt soon, a full size model, to send to Ted Yost for the 1* package.
The Paras look like good guns, I'm not real sold on the PXT extractor system, and the LDAs, well, there's just something morally wrong with a double action 1911, no matter how nice the trigger is.

And history has shown that disarming the people was one of the first steps of many tyrants...Hitler, Mussolini, Pol Pot, Hussein, Castro, etc.

You've obviously made these comments without having any clue what you're talking about. We could talk about the comparatively high rates of violent crimes in the UK compared to the United States, if you wish - here, guns in the hands of law abiding citizens reduce violent crimes. Criminals are less likely to do something dumb if they think the average joe schmoe's packing heat and is ready and able to use it, should the need arise. And if they do commit to something stupid, well, then that thug may get removed from the gene pool, his "victim" no longer a victim, but a threat to his well being.
So please don't poop on my thread.

Why have a 9mm for protection? I can't answer that one. There are too many variables. IMO for general carrying 9mm is too small. I much prefer my 45. But then again I do have a 32 auto for carrying as well, either as a back-up gun or when I need something light and very small.
Why have a 20mm sniper rifle for protection/hunting? first of all 20mm is HUGE. I believe it is so large it falls under the same general guidelines as automatic weapons (ie. general public can't own them). This is a weapon that is so large it may even be considered overkill for elephant hunting.
We own weapons most importantly because we can.

I've never needed one either, and I pray to God I never will, but I don't want to be standing in the face of an attacker with nothing but harsh language and the middle finger.
Get your facts straight, please. A cannon (that's what it is, a cannon, not a rifle) with a 20mm bore is used on most military aircraft to engage other aircraft or ground targets, it's by no means a "sniper rifle" for the average schmuck to own.
Most of the firearms I own I bought 'cause they're fun and they're cool. I like shooting, recreationally and competitively. A few I own have more serious purposes at hand, such as personal protection.

Sorry to pick Quintin because i agree with what you are saying, but there are 20mm sniper rifles. http://world.guns.ru/sniper/sn55-e.htm
Btw, very nice weapon. I have the Kimber Pro-Carry. And they are better than the Para simply because the double action trigger. But I also feel they are overall just a better weapon. I think you'll be very happy with it. But word of warning, as with any weapon make sure that you have it fully broke-in before you begin to carry it. These pistols are so tight, if using crappy ammo and your gun is a little dirty they won't fully chamber rounds (happens only occasionally). After a couple thousand rounds, mine hasn't had this problem.

I don't carry any pistol until I've ran at least 500 rounds through it. Kimber recommends 300-500 for break in, I'll probably do a lot more than that. I'm coming back over from carrying a Glock, so I'm taking my time on this one to make sure it's 100% before I stick it in a holster and go. I wanna try some IDPA/IPSC shooting with this thing too, looks like fun.

IDPA/IPSC shooting looks fun, just wish they had something like that around here.
Why are you not going to carry the Glock anymore? I personally don't like the fit and feel of a Glock in my hand, but I do know they are very reliable and good shooting guns. I know alot of people that swear by them.

In regards to the Glock, I'll still carry it, I just got bit by the 1911 bug again. The grip and trigger of the 1911 is a lot more shooter friendly to me than the Glock.
With the Glock, I have to work harder to point the gun in the right direction and manage the trigger to get accurate shots off. Over time, I've become accustomed to this, and I can make good solid hits, I just have to work really hard for it. The 1911 points much more accurately and naturally to me. And plus I carried a G19, and while I'm not one to start caliber wars, I do like the idea of making bigger holes. Plus the 1911 is slimmer and easier to conceal.
Dear oh dear
Violent crimes in the UK are on the up
Gun crime in the UK is on the up
BUT
What the hell has that got to do with guns in the US and owning guns? If I understand you right then you think in the UK every Tom **** and Harry should have a gun for protection from violent crimes Thats sure to sort all the problems out of course it wont mean all the bad people who at the moment don't need guns will have to get them to 'protect' themselves from the good guys whom have them to 'protect' themselves and the inocent
In this country if I think my neighbour is a ****** we swear at each other maybe have a fist fight and possibly include a hammer or brick In the US you go get your gun and shoot him 'because you can' for protection of course!
The constitution is is a bag of ***** you hide behind to justify owning guns
'Because we can' great attitude
Also a lot of people own 20mm rifles, 'nifty fifty' sniper rifles and the like and justify them as hunting weapons! To put this into perspective the IRA used one of these weapons to kill 3 people with one bullet Yeh that mound of flesh on the wall was a deer i shot back in 86 if you stick all 60000 bits together it would make up about 10% of the animal we could never find the rest not sure what happend to it really only shot it with one bullet!
Like I said mental!
What don't I understand? Now if Hitler popped up from the grave and decided to take over the world I'm pretty sure the armed forces would sort it out on my behalf so again no justification for owning a gun there
hmmm so what is the justification for owning a gun apart from 'because we can' and stating other countries have problems with crime
Why on earth do you need a gun as a general citizen ie you don't have to scare birds off runways or have to hunt to live
MENTAL
I was in the British Army and we where issued with 20 rounds to practice with but you as a citizen just fire of a few hundred rounds to see if there are any problems WHY do you need a few hundred rounds? do you have marshal law and have to protect your home stead from rioting hungry slobs?
I'm not bringing your thread down
i'm not being defensive (not trying to be)
i'm 100% curious as to why the hell?
