This is very old news. Its sad really and just shows how bad Ford is really doing these days. The Norfolk plant is the original truck plant and its sad to see it go. Im from the hampton roads area and actually attended college in Norfolk, so as a Ford fan, the truck plant was a big deal. I just hope Ford can stay afloat at all.

That is sad to hear, my F-150 was built at the Norfolk plant, but I'm not worried. Ford will be fine... and the F-150 will be the best selling truck for the 30th year in a row. Isn't that an amazing feat?

Sad to see a plant that has so much history to it closing. At least the 2 F150's I bought were built at the plant. My next one will probable be built at another plant since it will be some time before I buy a new truck.

I believe the (3) plants making the F-150 are located in Dearborn, MI, Claycomo, MO, and Norfolk, VA.

I think there is also a plant in Northern Kentucky that makes the larger F-series trucks.

The plant that makes the Ranger is located in St. Paul, MN, and is due to close in 2008. I guess that means the Ranger will either be discontinued or redesigned and built at one of the remaining truck plants?

Yes, that has a lot to do with it too, but seeing misbuilt units first hand that no way in hell should have slipped through the cracks at the plants...but that's beyond the scope of this thread.

Ford's "The Way Forward" is closing a lot of assembly plants, in efforts to save a few billion dollars here and there. SLAP, Atlanta, and Wixom Assembly plants will all be closed by '08. Batavia Transmission and Windsor Casting are closing as well. Norfolk's closing, and there's a couple others I forget right now. Everything said and done, 25-30K people will be out of work by 2008.
