Yup, its amazing how your attitude will change after you have kids. My wife drives an 05 Tahoe and I drive a 05 screw because we have 2 kids.

The Accords are nice cars. When my girlfriend needed a new car about 2 months ago thats what we ended up getting. Hers is a 2006 2-door Red. Its loaded with everything but leather. So far no problems.

I won't be buying any sedan for my wife and kids.

I pulled up next to my F150 in her car and looked to the left and I had the Ford logo at my ear. I don't care if it is a Toyota, Honda, or Kia, a stock truck or SUV will crush whoever is in that car.

Her next vehicle will be an SUV or minivan....I don't care if gas is $6 a gallon

I find it next to impossible to believe there isn't a way to protect a family with a more affordible car. You mean to tell me there is no crash-safe 2002-2004 vehicle on the used car lots with a $250 payment (for example)?
it is all realitive to your income and what you want and can afford. if your income is such that you can cover the car note on the first day of the month, then that extra $150 dosent mean alot.

i just doubled my house payment and moved 10 miles so my kids can attend one of the better school districts in the state. i alway say that when i am old and gray i am not going to say "i worried to much about my kids safety and education".

funny the things we do for wife and kids, i would change a thing.

or as the saying goes "whatever makes you sleep good at night"

Well, we have cars and trucks, and for the most part, the cars will far pretty well in crashes. The worse wreck to have is the T-bone because there's not much between you, and the front bumper of intercepting vehicle. Those Honda's can take one hell of a lick, and keep the occupant safe, whereas in an SUV, a proper T-bone can roll it, and has caused deaths in doing so. ( A friend of mine got killed 2 years ago after beign T-Boned in his Blazer, by a Deville). Cars are much less likely to roll from a similiar hit.

You made an excellent choice with the Honda. It will serve you well. I can count the number of people that have owned a Honda, and said it was a POS, on one hand. In fact, there are plenty 1991, 1992-1993 Accords in my parkign lot right now, still looking and sounding good. I don't see many erly 90's American cars down there (There are a few 91-92 Chevy Silverado's out there though) But, not one single, solitary pre 1996 F-150 on the whole lot... It's like when the 1997 dropped, all the 96 and earlier's disappeared. I see them very sporadically.

But, getting back to the Fusion. Man, with A-Plan, you still were facing $440/month on a Fusion? You did right to leave. We have a Fusion SE 4-cyl, 160 - 170 HP (We love it) and an F-150 SuperCrew XLT, for $599/month. That's less money that I'm paying for ONE Acura MDX, and less than I was paying for ONE Expedition. The Fusion is a little rough when idling, but once you pull off, it's buttery smooth. The Honda Accord and Civic we had, were both butter-smooth at idle, and under accelleration, until you hit 6,000 RPM's, but- that's another story...

With Ford, timing is everything, and with the incentives on top of X-Plan, we hit them just right. That made the "Buy an F-150, get a Fusion free" gimmick fall into the opportunity window; we drove them both home... That was with a combined $5,000 in negative equity from our trades. If you can work it, you can get a good deal. Most Ford dealers just want to move a unit; they'll do damn-near anything to earn your business... As consumers, we are in a very good place, and in my opinion, I'm loving it...

What kind of Fusion were you looking at? Must've been a loaded V-6, $440/24 mo. lease...

First off Hersh, thanks for the encouragement. I think I also did the right thing. Basically, on the Fusion (which I do like) I was looking at a V6 SE model with an MSRP of $21,700.00. What the problem was is that FMCC, because of the 0% for 72 months on everything in stock, had no better of a rate than 15.25%. And that, my friend, with nothing down is what made the payment so flippin high.

Meanwhile, on the Honda, they gave me the $500 dealer cash that they were alotted, sold me the car for invoice, and gave me half the holdback. Also, they threw in the alarm at cost ($199) which is a fairly comprehensive one that they normally sell for $799. Then, they got me through Honda Financial Services at a 5.9% rate for 36 months. All that, and I only had to put down $398 (the first payment). So, because of Ford's blind-sided refusal to take care of me (a loyal emplyee of a franchised dealer for 2 years), they lost my business. It's no wonder that everyone is out buying Honda and Toyotas these days if they're all like that. I was literally shocked.

My credit score is just about 625, so I dont always get the best rates and everything. I think I did pretty good.

Honda builds a good car. Congrats.

And I know all about the trade in on a Focus...Christ, I would have never bought mine if I knew how badly I was gonna get killed on trade.

Why? Because I bought a product that has a build quality far above and beyond most Ford products? Or maybe because I got a car that will actually be worth something after 3 years? Just because I now have a Honda in my driveway doesn't mean ****. I still have the F150, and still love it. At least I'm not one of the ones who lost thousands by trading in a car (for gas prices). Already, I've got 100 miles on the odo and it's just about at 3/4 of a tank.

At that rate, that's about 320-360 miles out of a 16 gallon tank. That's 20 - 22.5mpg ALL in town. Something my Focus could never accomplish, it was always getting about 190 miles out of 11-12 gallons on the FREEWAY! Probably because I had to mash the gas to even get the pig moving.

Hondas make great cars. My family buys Honda cars and Ford trucks, best combination IMO.

With the Accord, you get great reliability; build quality, efficiency, and the highest resale value of any car maker.

BTW - My uncle works at the Honda engine factory in Ohio, he may have built your engine

I'm not sure what all you guys are seeing in those Accords? While I'll grant you that they may be reliable, they are also so damn boring looking that I can barely stay awake looking at a picture of them! About the only foreign-built mid-size cars that have any allure whatsoever to me would be some of the Mazdas. But the Honda's and the Toyota's seem to have all the personality of a bowl of vanilla pudding!
