I'm not after style. I'm 27 years old. Time to grow up and give my family the safe, well built car they deserve. Simple as that. Still have my Ford, and still love it the same as I did on day one. Technically, it's not foreign built anyway. Built in the Marysville, Ohio plant and has 70% U.S./Canadian Parts Content. Granted, the money still goes to Japan, but its not foreign built.

[QUOTE=ddellwo]I'm not sure what all you guys are seeing in those Accords? While I'll grant you that they may be reliable, they are also so damn boring looking that I can barely stay awake looking at a picture of them! About the only foreign-built mid-size cars that have any allure whatsoever to me would be some of the Mazdas. But the Honda's and the Toyota's seem to have all the personality of a bowl of vanilla pudding!

[/QUOTE

So they are boring and make you sleepy big deal. I drive what i want not what people want to see me driving. I think most see a car that is "reliable" weather its boring or not its reliable and when you trade it its still worth a few bucks....... I put on 60,000 miles on the ravioli in a year and a half and its never eb=ven had a hickup, same tires, brakes, and 29 mpg. I can go 350-380 on 11-12 gallons of gas.

Going back to a post in the middle of this by who I don't even know, but you said you couldn't get 20-22.5 MPG city?

Holy crap. Something was terribly wrong! I have gone through 9 tanks of gas so far since buying my Focus and my LOWEST MPG per tank was 27.5, and a high of 30 MPG without EVER doing more than 15% freeway.

I'm a young punk with a fairly heavy foot too (On a new and still brekaing-in ening eat that!). I am positive that if I went a full tank of even 80% city 20% freeway without driving it hard I could get 32MPG.

Anyway, that looks to be a nice Honda you got there. I myself will lilkely stick to Ford cars unless they take a turn for the worse, but I recognize a nice car when I see one. My neighbor just totalled his old *** Accord that was 10 years old and reported no major problems in his 10 years. So Honda can make some pretty good cars.

Yeah I had a heavy foot too. But still no reason for the Focus to barely get 20mpg on the freeway when its rated at 32. I would have just rather not dealt with the service department at Ford explaining to them the poor fuel economy. They'd just give me the runaround about how it has to "break-in" and thats "normal." Well how come the Honda gets 23 city MPG right out of the box? See my frustration? It is a sweet car though, and I did really like the Focus. I just needed something more safe/economical for my wife.

my wife had a 88 accord when i meet her and it was an ok car, but IMO no better or worse than most cars i have owned and the rest were gm or ford.

Honda makes a good car, i just think the reputation of the 70's and 80's American made cars is proving hard to live down.

The 90's were schyt too (For American Cars)...

Only recently has America stepped up.

Chrysler 300
Ford 500
Ford Fusion
Chevy Impala
Pontiac G6

Best looking, most reliable "passenger cars" America has produced in 30+ years.

mid 90 impalla SS, ls1 camaros, 305 hp cobra mustang, first purpose built sport trucks, the 93- 95 lightning or the 454 ss (without them the current 99 - 04 lightning may or may not happen) i still like the mid 90' licoln mark VIII with it sleek look and the 4v 4.6, the oldmobile aurora was a descent looking car with a performance based engine, the corvette ZR-1, the gm syclone and typhoon, the cadilac northstar engine was an advanced engine at the time. go drive a 97 corvette ls1 and just try and get that chit eating grin off your face.

the american efforts were as good as any others in the 90s, the lexus line was a stand out in the 90's my parent bought a loaded ls400 in 91 for 54k, great car but it need maintenace and repair like all the other cars. but the ride and refinement were excellent, what do you expect for 54k. their 05 ls430 is even better but there again at 68k , i expect it. i have riden in new accords and it is not a stand out to any other mid size car i have driven or riden in.

go drive a 97 corvette ls1 and just try and get that chit eating grin off your face.

You're not a traitor man. We got my wife a new Honda last year and I love that thing as much as my truck(well, maybe not that much ) but it is a great car, safe and is fun to drive. I am sure your wife will love her's too. Good luck.

While they may be a step up stylistically from their predecessors, I would hardly classify the new Camry as a car that sets one's heart a flutter!

I seriously doubt there are any college seniors out there who are just dying to graduate and get their first paycheck so they can go sign up for a monthly payment on a new Camry!

You may NEED a new Camry or a new Accord, but few people really WANT one!

Actually Toyota has had to increase production by 12,000 units per month just to keep up with the supply and demand on the new Camry's. It is one of the most popular vehicles on the market right now espescially since they now offer it in a hybrid as an option. And as soon as it is introduced into the Nascar scene that number will no doubt go up tremendously. This isn't your Camry of the mid to late 90's, I'm probably going to buy one as my second vehicle. I've had 3 Mustangs in the past and love them dearly but the newer ones (other than the Shelby GT500) leave alot to be desired IMO. Toyota sales are up almost 10% this year while Ford and GM are both 7% negative. It goes to show how much actually caring about putting a quality product will boost your sales. I hope Ford changes it's ways soon, I would hate to have it's reputation tarnished like GM.

Already, I've got 100 miles on the odo and it's just about at 3/4 of a tank.

At that rate, that's about 320-360 miles out of a 16 gallon tank. That's 20 - 22.5mpg ALL in town. Something my Focus could never accomplish, it was always getting about 190 miles out of 11-12 gallons on the FREEWAY! Probably because I had to mash the gas to even get the pig moving.
It was a joke buddy.. Congrats.

True, but- none of the cars mentioned above were "mainstream" transportation. Everyone was either a sports car, limited availability, or a specialty vehicle. I'm talking about the Taurus, the Contour, the Mystique, the Cavalier, the Beretta, the Corsica, the Delta 88, the Cutlass Supreme, the Regal, the Cutlass Cierra, the Reatta, the Dynasty, the Spirit, the Shadow... Those cars were all Doo-Doo compared to the Accord, Camry, and Maxima of the 90's. Not schytting on America, because back then- I was "Pro-American" where cars are concerned. Now I'm "Pro-Whatever's best).

I loved (And still love) the 1994 - 1996 Impala SS. Still looks like a big ol' Land Shark to me...

I'm just calling 'em like I saw 'em.
