Thanks Kobi... I knew I could count on you...

Little harmless snakes don't bother me much it's the poisonous ones I take pains to avoid, those and the big constrictors I'd rather stay far away from. That's why we have a large spider living in an aquarium in our house. The hubby wanted a tarantula or a Boa, I figure the spider gets loose I can always step on it but a 10-15' snake could cause issues!

Yes, I also had a run in with the illustrious cottonmouth (water moccasin). Only mine was not a dry bite, but rather a very wet bit to the back of my left hand. I was about 19 at the time, lived on my own, no insurance, etc. Took some Tylenol after the pain got very intense and woke up 4 days later. You can actually feel the venom as it travels through your body and begin it's magic. At least I did. That was 22 years ago and the only thing I have to remember it by is that my ring finger on that hand stays folded under into my palm most of the time. My map reader says I am trying to hide my wedding band.....

I killed 3 rattlers last year, 2 while hunting and one in my dove field. 2-8's and a 9' rattle. Have them here in my office.

Funny story, had a 'client' in here one day hand cuffed and he was spilling beans on his cohorts and I accidently knocked the rattles off the desk onto the floor. For a split second it sounded just like a rattler singing. That guy came a foot off the chair and pee'd himself. O'h the fun!

I got a snake in my yard, which we are trying to get arrive of. It is always near where the dogs hang out around and I want to kill it or something. I have a friend that wants to take it as a pet, so hopefully he will come over and get it. I have pictures that I will post later...

You guys are a bunch of sissies...

Snakes ain't no big deal... Just be careful. And leave the nonpoisonous ones alone. They're good to have around.

ALL SNAKES are equally valuable to our eco system. The poisonous snakes are the ones that help keep the rodent population down.

That's something we should all keep in mind.

I meant "around the home"...

I know they're all important, but I'll be damned if I'm going to let a Western Diamonback make my back porch his home, with 2 dogs and a five year old boy at home...

I'd try and safely remove him, rather than killing him, though.

And I don't care poisonous or not, I hate all snakes equally and will give each and everyone of them the shovel

w3rd.

That's what I meant...my bad. I would do the same. I have a terror....err, little girl that's 10 and two pooches that frequent the yard as well. A ratt-ler has no place in my yard. Since I live in town, I see a lot of garder snakes but have yet to discover any poisonous snakes....YET

Yeah, I effed up and killed two king snakes at my aunts house. They actually eat other snakes, thereby keeping them away from the house. I live in the city, and while Texas is still snake country, I haven't seen one yet. (In the city) but, I have seen Roccoons, Opossums, and what looked like a freaking Anteater (but it couldn't be; not in Texas). Dozens of lizards, but- no snakes.

Nevertheless, everytime I clean out my garage, and move those old tires around, you can bet your ****, I knock stuff around, and make a lot of noise so that I don't "surprise" one of them by sticking my hand down in the rim, and getting zapped. As long as I see him before he sees me, life is good. But, yep, if you fired a weapon here, your only defense would be that the snake was trespassing- which means it has to be dark, then you can shoot it. Otherwise, you'd be fined, jailed, or both for discharging a firearm in city limits.

A co-worker of mine got popped by a copperhead on his drive way, while tryign to explain to his wife.

"Aw honey, they're nothing to be afraid of (hand waving) he's just as scared of me as I am of... Ahhhh! The sunuvabich got me!!! That jokers hand swole so badly, it looked like a catchers mit.

The thing about Copperheads is, they travel in pairs, so he may have killed that one, but his/her mate is somewhere nearby. We killed 4 of them at Fort Hood. How something that thick, get get under a flat sheet of playwood, I'll never know. I worry about my dogs though. We have a family of rabbits that has stupidly moved into my yard. Snakes usually follow rabbits, so I may have to invest in some diesel for the fenceline (And hope the EPA doesn't find out), or some snakeaway.
