Another classic example of being very closed minded. Like I said in my last post... stupidity breeds stupidity.

Anyone can toss a ball through a hoop... anyone can swing a stick and hit a ball... anyone can tackle someone running by them... anyone can kick a ball into a net... Open your eyes. Adapt.

That's the first time you've actually came out and called me stupid. Nice.

"Here's something the entire world is in love with, if you don't like it too, you're a moron." Just because I don't agree with you doesn't make me less intelligent. I gave soccer a chance when I was young. It bored me almost as badly as baseball. Basketball on the other hand, is an incredible sport; but, it requires a certain level of skill to be good at it. In fact, as much as I dislike baseball, hitting a major league fastball is probably the most difficult thing to do in the sports world.

There are different levels of soccer and the athletes at the top levels of the game are no less impressive than those in other sports; but, the popularity of the game is based on the fact that almost "anyone can kick a ball into a net".... Eventually. The fact that all you need to play the game is a ball (It doesn't even have to be a soccerball.) makes it a game that can be played by the poorest of kids, in the worst parts of the world, at any time and in any place. A field isn't even required. I uderstand the game, and it's popularity, just fine. I just don't care for it.

Lax? what's that. Haven't heard of any lacrosse teams in Texas, but there are plenty of soccer teams around here.

Bowling is the sport anyone can play, ever seen league night at the alley?

Yes fat guys can play soccer. Don't see any at the pro level though, except maybe coaching.

I don't think you do. It's OK not to like soccer, but there's more to it than just kicking a ball into a net. Just like NASCAR isn't all go straight turn left.

Read it again until you understand what was written. I'm not going to argue the finer points of the sport with you. You soccer boys are just sooooo sensitive. Get over yourself.

Its actually growing pretty quickly down there. It has always been an east coast game, but a lot of athletes (your football players) are finding it a good offseason choice. A&M and U. Texas both have had some pretty decent "virtual vaarsity" teams lately (I think). You guys also got a midfielder on this year's All-American list. Used to be only guys from NY and MD on there.

And RP:

very unofficial, I know

But I do agree with Odin. You could take a peg-legged retard and drop him on a soccer field and, at the very least, it wouldnt be painful to watch.....unlike giving peg leg a golf club, ice skates, a lacrosse stick, a tennis racket, etc. These things take talent and practice...any clown can kick a ball. Now to do it well enough and have the endurance to play on any sort of organized level, naturally that takes something. But it is a sport that anyone can play right off the bat. Thats why its so popular with suburban parents who have raised uncoordinated, unisex, nearsighted children.

Anyone can play anything, this is the good ole US of A. Kids play soccer because it's fun. Kicking isn't just a thing you can do, it is a learned artform. I challenge anyone to kick a soccer ball around a wall outside the penalty box. You won't score. Unless you know how to make the ball move correctly. Kind of like a curveball in Baseball. I bet 99.9% of you can't do it. I can and I am a goalkeeper.

Keep them coming, I'll bet I win.

I do. Just don't take it personally if I hold strong opinions. Sometimes stupid is stupid though.

I'm not talking about playing on a competitive level. Im saying it is easier to kick a ball into a net than throw it with a lacrosse stick, hit it with a hockey stick, etc, etc etc.

It is much more natural and requires less practice to see results.

Im not down playing the skill required for competitive soccer. Im saying that the learning curve is a lot shorter and a lot gentler than many other sports. Any kid, after one hour of gym class, can put the ball in the net 90% of the time from a reasonable distance with soccer. The same does not hold true for hockey, lacrosse, basketball, etc. That is why it is so popular. Anyone can afford to play, and anyone has the skill to play (at early levels).

I didn't pick up hockey until late, say 20 something. It wasn't hard to hit the puck, it came rather easy, right handed playing left handed at that, felt more natural to me, of course I can play any sport and be highly competetitive. Some people can't walk and chew gum at the same time. If you are an athlete, you can do anything. It's all mental.

Storytime. In football when I was in HS, every off season we had games. We kept to our positions as a group and competed at certain track distances, receiving drills, etc. One game had us throw the football down the sideline for distance and the distance off the sideline was subtracted from the length of the throw. I was in the lineman group and out-threw the whole team, 70 yards as a junior dead on the sideline, not because I was a QB, because I threw to the tree, BB hoop, fence, anything at home and I got good at it. I didn't start playing football until I was a freshman. Now could any football goon play soccer and letter 3 years, no.

I can pick up a bat and smash a baseball, switch hit as I'm ampidextrous, not a 90+mpg heater, but I can do it. Now I can pitch, but haven't developed the mechanics to throw a high MPH. But I can still do it. Never even played while a kid.

I can go on and on, but I still know soccer isn't a game that anyone can just go out and play without knowing what they're doing. Too much going on.

Actually, life is like a bag of horse manure. It's full of sheet.
