Racing in a Circle???????

So this thread is for all the non-race fans.....Go watch a Race!

Until recently; I too was victim of the...'how can racing in a circle be entertaining' mentality. Boy was I wrong.

I started watching Nascar at the very very end of last season. I've probably watched 8 races so far but I was hooked after 2-3. This is fun stuff people.

This weekend I went to my first live race....Not Nascar but the local track.
Let me tell you; it's way cool....certainly worth the $10 I paid for 4 hours of entertainment. If you have a local track and haven't been, go check it out. If they have Figure-8 racing; go on one of those nights; it was a blast.

That's all.

Ok go straight.....

Heeeeeyyyyyyy this looks familiar....there's that guy with the flag....didn't I just pass him...

Now repeat that 500 times over the next 4 hours, add sunburn, noise, sloppy drunks, and the occasionaly crash and you've got NASCAR.

I tried watching, I tried attending, and I just can't get into it....now stage a car, rip the front wheels off the ground and cover a 1/4 mile in 10 seconds....that's cool.

UC you're just weird...

I totally agree with you UC. NASCAR and circle track in general is very entertaining. I was a semi-fan for a while, never got really into it. Well my GF changed that last year when we met. She has attended every race at Texas Motor Speedway. I went to my first one last april, then the one in November and then recently the one earlier this month. They are a blast to watch and attend. I have been hooked ever since. She likes Tony Stewart, and I like Elliott Sadler (drives a FORD). I have also attended the dirt tracks here locally in DFW as I am from a small town, and that was what we had to entertain us. It is a working man's sport. I agree about urging people to go watch a local track race. Those are exciting. Good thread.

Good point. I think the description you give is boring. To each his own.

10 seconds in a straight line or 350 laps in a circle; take your pick.

I enjoy both types of racing. Actually all types. Watching people blow doors off at 300mph or watching a well executed pass off of turn 4 to win it by a nose. It is the thrill of competition.

The thing I don't understand about people who dislike racing is that they think it's all drive straight turn left. I guess there's so many variables to racing the average mind cannot comprehend, therefore they do not like it.

I could go on for 500 laps on this one. Now baseball, I'd rather listen to paint dry.

I could swear I just got insulted....my average mind can't be sure though...

I watched it and appreciate the engineering and skill it takes to race like they do. There have been a few finishes I've watched and enjoyed but to me the whole experience is so distant/removed. I cant get into it but mostly I was giving UC a hard time.

What's the deal vader? Does giving people a hard time make you feel tough or something? Get real. We're all friends here; no need to be mean to your fellow F150 owners.

I gotta agree with you on that one, Vader... If I want to watch things go in a circle I'll make my dog chase her tail...

It's not that fun when you know who the winner (fido) is before the race starts.
