NYS wants to ban ALL brush guards
Hey UC! Is that you? How have you been? Still off roading? I miss the mud - only off roading I have done are trails & while fun, they're still not as much fun as mud! LOL!
What's new? I haven't been online for quite awhile - I have had MEGA computer problems & couldn't log on. Right now, this computer is a pain. I lost the power buttn & the INSIDE power button. I had soldered a new 1 on but it broke off so I now have to power up by touching 2 bare wires together! If I keep going this way, passenger pigeons would be faster!
Then, my Mom has not been doing well. She's been blind in her left eye since 2004 & recently started to bleed in her right eye & couldn't see. She's had the max laser surgery on it & there's a slight improvement & @ best, there are no new bleeds. But, they want her left eye done & that is invasive eye surgery & will need to be done in a hospital. She can barely walk now & I'm still going out there every weekend to care for her. I have 1 weekend/month @ home when I HAVE to work a Sat but that's it. It's a 90 mile trip 1 way so it's a real pain to travel there but it's my Mom so I do it. Please keep her in your prayers ok? She really needs it.
Let me know what's new & exciting ok? And - PLEASE email the reps in NYS to oppose this anti-brush guard law! Doesn't matter where you live - they need to know LOTS of people are opposed to it. If they see out of state people backing us up they'll take notice! Trust me!

Woah; slow down ma'am.
Yea; I Love Mud. Can't wait for the summer. Here's my Mud thread...

What's new? My job sucks more than ever; but I had a phone interview today with another company. *Cross fingers*
"I haven't been online for quite awhile" You're telling me; I had the first post actually making note of you're legendary status.
Your power-up proceedure ROCKS! Sweet.
Sorry to hear about mom. I was actually considering going to church next week; so I'll keep her in mind. Eye Problems suck. We got to support our parents right? I try and visit my mom at least twice a week.
Best wishes. UC.

CL,
How have you been? You mon will be in my prayers tonight. Can an e-mail from Canada help? Maybe I can threaten to send down cold air all summer till they take this bill off the burner.

Cowlady -
Long time no see - I'll have to drop one or two of the reps you listed an email. This is total BS.
The other problem is if you want to visit a state... OK, I want to see NY, remove all my aftermarket goodies, go visit and the reinstall.... NOT! Don't believe it? Every try to drive a lifted truck through a state with strict lift laws? No fun, if you manage to get through at all!
These loonies are everywhere, unfortunately, we must all be forever vigil - that is the price of freedom.
And Cowlady is dead on, ask the people of England and Australia how they lost there guns - when the government wanted the handguns, the rifle and shotgun people stood and watched. The rifle people were up next. When it was time for shotguns, there was no one left to help in that fight. The "ban" proponents always want "this tiny bit" for safety... "nothing more". Then they want the next little bit... and the next...
SEMA is a great watchdog for people like us! Anyone in the automotive industry can join, and it's pretty darned cheap!

He said something to the effect of, [i]"Brush guards change the dynamics of the vehicle. A big truck like the Expedition doesn't need a brush guard. Ford engineered in crumple zones to protect you and your family, as well as potentially save the people in the vehicle you might hit. Putting a brush guard on changes the vehicle dynamics and could actually contribute to your death or injury in a wreck, rather than save you, and if it doesn't- you sure as heck will kill or injure whomever you hit."
At first I was thinking, "Eff 'em, I'm trying to save my family- let them worry about their family." I never got the guard though...
Expedition got hit twice in the 6 years it has been in service.
Vehicle damage (minimal)
Personal injuries (zero)
Regardless of what is in the front, a 5000 lbs vehicle against a 2500 lbs vehicle will inflict a considerable amount of damage. The POS grill guards that Ford and all sell are mounted to the bumper points. They are well in fornt of the crumple zones built into the frame. They may look nice but they will cause more damage to the grill than they will protect. They end up being pushed into the grill. As far as protecting pedestrians..... What do you think will happen to the poor sob when he get hit by a truck? Grill guard or not you will be scraping him off the front of the truck. If he was hit by a Honda he most likely would be cut in half. But here is one of the reasons why all the fuss. http://www.khou.com/topstories/stori....3f1cd7a1.html

here's the thing... these trucks are not crash tested at IIHS or NHTSA with brush guards on them.
for everyone of you that said you have no damage in a collisiion as a result has basically just admitted why they should be banned.
The crumple zone is there to save the life of you and the other driver
typically irrational
this is so Stupid! a brush guard, designed to fend off foliage will damage some
fool's kia more than no brushguard! who elects these bozos?!
why not just elect bozo's to call for more robust cars?!
damn thngs are darn near disposables now!
sure glad i live a country away...
we dont brook such foolishness on the left coast. even king george is smart enough
to keep his distance from us!

VA has a law right now that you cant have a brush guard that has bars that go across the headlights, they say it cuts down on the light your headlights put out. However, i have had one on my truck since I got it two years ago and the only problem I have is getting it inspected every year, you gotta take it off.
If that law goes into effect, I dont think it will be enforced all that much, much like many other crapy laws Va has. Such as altered suspensions, body lifts, altered exhuast ext. People have them everywhere you look but unless they are ridiculous, no one really cares.
But hopefully it will be shot down so we dont have to deal with it.

Those of you with four wheel drives who simply say, "ban them they are ugly" make me sick. You are the type of posers who bought the truck for the cool looking sticker on the bed. Bunch of wannabes.

Instead you have CARB, a RINO Governator who immediately signed a .50 BMG ban once sworn into office, fruits nuts and homo's everywhere, can't keep the lights on, and are being over run and outbred by illegal mexicans. Yeah, you're doing so much better out there on the left coast.
If it wasn't for the twits, queers, and downright unstable people California would be an awesome place to live.
IMHO the vast majority of the bush guards available are an appearance item only. Take one off road and strike it off an object and watch it push back into the grill because of it's inherent weak mounting system. I don’t have one but if I were to ever T-bone a poor SOB in a Honda there would be no survivors. Sorry but that is a fact of life. My truck weighs 5200 lbs. And the Honda weight about 3000 lbs. Even with the useless crumple zone built into my frame I will still flatten and drive over the Honda. So my point is that with or without the bush guard little cars are toast in an accident with a pick up truck.

talking about protection of a grill guard my brother had a 2005 f250 & had a Ranch Hand Bumper Replacement installed & 2 weeks later he was goin down the highway when a drunk driver in a semi hit em & the bumber saved his life
